Overly focused on polygamy, other problems
[edit]This article is overly focused on the polygamy issue, ignoring generally lots of other issues involved with Grant's presidency. I am going to try to see if I can add some additional information from Francis M. Gibbons' biography. If someone with access to Ron Walker's biography can add more information that would be very helpful as well.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:41, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Sentence and paragraph quality. The introductory section.
[edit]When I went to this article to lookup an item, I found that the sentences were short, choppy, and had many technical errors. I corrected two of them and then pulled back and looked at the whole article. The paragraphs are full of examples of single sentences. The high level introduction before the contents does not properly cover the content of the article. The high level headers seem appropriate to the article. Generally, the whole reads like an average example from a high school writing class, rather than with the smoothness that I have come to expect in Wikipedia. Either that, or it is as if written by a journalist who could not accept even on extra word to assist the reader. If no one else is currently working on it, I will try a first-pass rewrite in the next few weeks in my sandbox aimed primarily at readability. I have at least three good references here at home to verify much of the overarching information of the article.Edward E Fairchild (talk) 16:20, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- I have nothing against your statements Fairce except for the fact that most people cannot stand long run-on sentences. What I am concerned about are things that are not clear or maybe are wrong. When somebody says the one of Heber's wives went to Manassa, I have NO idea where that is. Can't they get that right on the very first instance? I came to this article knowing that Heber J Grant lambasted the repeal of the of the XVIII Amendment to the Constitution of the United States in a conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I came to this after being hit the night before by what was probably a Mormon in Provo Utah turning right thinking I am pile of garbage that isn't worth a dam! I have even had police almost hitting me as they also turn right in Provo. I came here from the Wikipedia article on Helmuth Hübener, that beautiful young man that was murdered by Adolf Hitler and his henchman. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints even excommunicated Helmuth. And the person writing this doesn't put Manassa Colorado on the first instance to make sure it is correct? I even donated money for Wikipedia to get this right. I expect it be correct. I want it to be correct. I demand that it be corrected because I have the bruises of the car where they driver slowed but didn't stop because I am considered worthless. And because I did not create the article I demand that the creator get it correct. Put it correctly where it should be that Manassa at the very first instance in the article is in Colorado. That is all. hhhobbit (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 13:59, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- You can correct it yourself, you know. That's kind of one of the points of Wikipedia—if you read and article and see an issue that needs fixing, you can fix it. Click the "edit this page" button and make the changes. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:18, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
