I am a Wikipedia visiting scholar with the National Museum of African Art, mostly working on contemporary African art in our collaboration. The museum's librarians identified women artists without WP articles that have exhibited with the museum, of which Kohl was one. Apart from some bibliographic help, the museum has no involvement in my editing process—they don't control my editorial choices and the work is unpaid—but I did want to declare the potential conflict of interest. I've written over 100 WIkipedian-vetted articles and am familiar with the guidelines, especially those on neutrality. If you have a suggestion, free to make improvements boldly and if you'd prefer to discuss how to rephrase, just let me know here with a {{ping}}. czar 19:39, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1943, Silesia, Poland

[edit]

To be precise, this information seems to be incorrect. Although it is not stated where exactly she was born, Silesia in general was not part of Poland in 1943 as the relocation of Poland happened 1945+. 5.146.199.130 (talk) 15:07, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The source says, "Silesia, Poland", which would imply that she was born in a Polish part of Silesia or otherwise identifies her birthplace as Poland. Is the idea to instead say "Occupied Poland" or something similar, and what extra clarity would that bring? (Why wouldn't the source have put it that way, if that part mattered, or what source supports putting her birthplace that way?) czar 01:45, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not misinterpret my statement. For that its does not matter much, it is mentioned two times in prominent places in the text. I have no access to that source like you obviously have, so I cannot say anything more. People also make mistakes on Wikipeda, you know? And in consideration of almost all of historical Silesia having been neither Poland nor occupied Poland at that time, I mentioned it as possibly being wrong. If I would have thought it to be wrong and not to be questioned, I would have changed it. Further just to mention, it is common consensus on Wikipedia, that birthplaces etc. are always mentioned as part of their appropriate jurisdictions, and only in special cases as what they "identified it was", so I do not understand your argument on that specific point. 5.146.199.130 (talk) 09:20, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if you find a source that indicates her country of birth as somewhere other than Poland. czar 12:09, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I will, if I stumble upon something. I will also add the source if it backs the statement. Keep up the good work. 5.146.199.130 (talk) 19:23, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
