Most points?

[edit]

Everton have not won more points than any other club in the English top flight, even assuming three points per game won.

Conventional stats

         Team Sns Pld W D L F A Pts
       1 Liverpool 90 3602 1654 895 1053 5901 4467 4703
       2 Everton 102 3986 1620 977 1389 6273 5634 4584

Retrospective points (3 for a win)

         Team Sns Pld W D L F A Pts
       1 Liverpool 90 3602 1654 895 1053 5901 4467 5857
       2 Everton 102 3986 1620 977 1389 6273 5634 5837

It all depends on what type of points system you use. Using 3 points for a win overall would give Liverpool the title. Using the actual number of points won, which is discouraged as it places emphasis on success in more recent seasons, then Liverpool still hold the title. Using the original 2 points for a win system, gives Everton the title - but not by much. Steve Flanagan, statistician for ToffeeWeb

Thats strange because the top one has the same number of wins, but Everton have had more draws. Good aricle by the way, although the titles are a little long. Poiuytre 15:47, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recentism

[edit]

Like so many club histories on Wikipedia, this one suffers from recentism. The first 40 years are covered in 12 lines, of which 8 refer to the foundation & naming of the club. The actual football coverage is 4 lines long. Conversely, the twenty-first century accounts for over half the article. Come on - there must be some genuine Everton FC historians out there. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 04:49, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Every time someone adds history, with citations and links, to the page it is taken off. The pager looks childish in parts. History of the club and team should be mentioned, but it all team and as you say just overt recentism.
The page needs to be in the hands of responsible people who know what they are doing, and in control of the page - the page sadly lacks that. The writing is also appalling in parts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.65.95.97 (talk) 10:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose you think that you should be in charge of the page. Ho hum. The text you added today was not taken off, merely amended, then you undid this and accussed me of vandalism in your edit summary. The pager looks childish in parts. History of the club and team should be mentioned, but it all team and as you say just overt recentism. That's what I call apalling writing. Dancarney (talk) 10:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Split in Club Added

[edit]

Added the split in the club when at Anfield. Needs more work. Will get back to fine tune. NO NOT UNDO.

Constant vandalism is being done to this site, namely by a dancarney. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.65.17.61 (talk) 10:32, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The onus to provide a source to show this is not original research rests entirely upon you. Read WP:BURDEN. Sillyfolkboy (talk) (edits) 11:14, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1915 title not mentioned

[edit]

The page needs more structuring to group history into sections. Essential aspects missing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.65.95.97 (talk) 10:27, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above note was May 09 so this will have changed since then. However I have been updating the page with better links and i have added a sub-heading for the 1984-85 season, to make it stand out. Having said that; i think it might look better to do a sub heading for each successful season. I will leave that for now does anyone else agree? restructure

[edit]

As an interested wikipedian can we have this structured like Manchester Uniteds? Ie split the history maybe 1878-1945?, 1946-1960, 1961-1981, 1981-2002 2002-present? something along those lines. Babydoll9799 (talk) 12:02, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Former name

[edit]

I have just read the piece on St Domingo's. Am i the only one who finds some of this text dubious? Everton as far as i am aware based the name on St Domingos, the church. There has never been any direct relation to say St Dominic so say Everton were briefly named "in honour of St Dominic" is a play on words. It is fair to understand the connection but i doubt when Everton called theselves St Domingos they were thinking of St Dominic. I think the text should be changed slightly Babydoll9799 (talk) 11:01, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the club was named after the church, rather than specifically after the saint. I don't think that the image of St Dominic has any place in this article. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 08:52, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Intro

[edit]

Just like my last note i was reading the text, and thought, actually the intro paragraph about a methodist church does not match the next one down about St Domingos. They appear to be two seperate churches and locations. We all know St Domingos is where Everton took their first name, but what of this New Connexions, and its locality? I'm just puzzled as the intro about someone and his church doesn't have any connection to Everton FC. The only connection i can read in to it is it is in Everton and it is a methodist church. Is there anyone that can shed some light on this? Babydoll9799 (talk) 11:48, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
