Average and walks
[edit]Took out the blurb about how his average of .440 was due to walks being counted as hits, as it was not true. That rule applied only to the 1887 season, not 1894.
- Actually, the reason he hit .440 was because 1894 was the first year that the mound was moved back from 50 feet to its current 60 feet, six inches from home plate. It took the pitchers a while to adjust, and the league batting average shot up to well over .300. The best players, like Duffy, put up ridiculous numbers that season. In a "normal" season where a team scores 715 runs in a season, Duffy's average would have been about .349. Orphaned references in Hugh Duffy
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Hugh Duffy's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 21:23, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
