Pro-Axis ?

[edit]

The King of England during the war made some very unflattering comments on the subject, possibly scotiching a move to the US http://www.archives.gov/iwg/declassified-records/rg-226-oss/entry-211.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.68.194.178 (talk) 12:23, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I first assumed that the text referred to Peter's first cousin Princess Irene, Duchess of Aosta, a Greek princess married to an Italian prince. It appears, however, that the text does indeed refer to Ovtchinnikova. Surtsicna (talk) 12:45, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They have used an alternate spelling of the name Irina. White Russians were certainly very passionate about their cause, which they might have thought would be served by an Axis victory. Others could have thought a Allied victory would be to their advantage because it would secure Stalins position and lead to a futher weakening of the Soviet Union through his poor leadership. It is "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma" to quote Churchill. Without corroboration the OSS account might be too little to be relied upon. 31.68.197.227 (talk) 17:27, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
