Dab page

[edit]

Even if your assertion were true re Japanese rock music being more notable we still need the dab page to help our readers whio want to find the artist; we dont bury information because some editor claims it is less notable (without even a source to back up their assertion but even if its true it doesnt justify removing the dab page). Essentially you are arguing that if 9 out of 10 people want Japanse rock then a;ll 10 should get Japanese rock and the tenth person should be left without the info they want. But this is an encyclopedia, we arent here jsut to serve the majority (always assuming the assertion that the majority want Japoanese rock music is correct). The point of dabpages os to give the alternatives when they exist, as thye clearly do in this case. Thanks, ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 11:59, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Big Brovaz can be a hatnote. I don't have a problem with that. But Rock music in Japan is clearly the main topic here. The "we aren't here to serve the majority" argument doesn't actually hold much water in regards to disam pages. Disam pages are not exhaustive directories. If 99% of people are looking for one topic when typing into a search box, the link should go to that article. In this case, there are currently 81 direct links to this page. Every single one is for J-Rock the music style. For now I will fix the links to this page that should be going to J-Rock the musical style. I really don't feel like a fight over this. --User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 07:40, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

I believe it's fair to include a small infobox to this article with resumed information that can be seen at a glance just like the Infoboxes used on other articles like visual kei, Group Sounds and J-pop. In a side note I don't understand how Japanese pop is seen as a musical genre within Japanese music whereas Japanese rock is not...(?) User:Takacchin10_10 (talk)

The basis of this article should be the similar American rock and British rock articles and all the others in Category:Rock music by nationality, which are not genres. Visual kei, Group Sounds and J-pop are not genres either. J-pop is introduced as a genre in its first sentence but the next section gives several definitions that contradict this; "the term J-pop was used only for Western-style musicians in Japan", "defined J-pop as all Japanese music belonging to the Recording Industry Association of Japan" and "In the 1990s, the term J-pop came to refer to all Japanese popular songs except enka." Ultimately, it is only an organizational category used by record stores, which is another of the definitions given in the article. But just because those three articles are incorrect doesn't mean this one should follow. 04:05, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
