It would be a great to have a picture of JMB if possible.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 18:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Nonpartisan" cites

[edit]

The two cites used for non-partisan don't seem viable to me. One is to the organization's website, the other is to the subject's blog. At best, we could describe him as a "self-described non-partisan", but even that's a bit of a reach. Really need second party sources that describe him (not the organization) as non-partisan. Ravensfire (talk) 19:48, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. I'll keep looking. And I'm okay with keeping the tag on if you like. But the way I was looking at it was this: FairTax is nonpartisan (numerous sources confirm this -- they lobby both Democrats & Republicans). Bennett is an activist for FairTax. So QED isn't Bennett nonpartisan in his advocacy of FairTax? I'm not talking about things he may have done prior, or may do since, which aren't in conjunction with FairTax. Or, is there a solid source which puts Bennett's advocacy of FairTax as being decidedly Republican, or Democrat? --Tomwsulcer (talk) 20:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Combining information from two sources that way is called WP:SYNTH. No QED on Wikipedia! Not to mention it's some fairly faulty logic - just because he's a member of a non-partisan group doesn't mean that he is non-partisan. He supports FairTax, so he's definitely non-partisan there, but he's non-partisan with regards to individuals/groups he'll talk about FairTax. Honestly, I'd drop anything about him being non-partisan from the article. Cool with having the organization described that way, and that he's part of it. Trying to put that description on Bennett will require good sourcing and context. Ravensfire (talk) 20:58, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My sense is: the statement "Bennett's advocacy of FairTax is nonpartisan" is bordering on the obvious. The group obviously wants to persuade both political parties. It describes itself repeatedly as nonpartisan. It doesn't identify with a political party. Bennett is a co-director of the group. My sense is you're making a huge fuss over a detail. I don't think it's any kind of a stretch or WP:SYNTH to use good common sense. Do you, yourself, really believe Bennett's advocacy of FairTax is partisan? I don't. Check out Bennett on Comcast television saying he's nonpartisan here (see 1:06) -- the moderator didn't disagree. But I agree there's a need to find an acceptable source affirming "Bennett is nonpartisan" and I think in time, surely, there will be.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 21:19, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

James M. Bennett, Salisbury MD.

[edit]

When I searched on this name, was expecting James M. Bennett High School. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_M._Bennett_High_School

James M Bennett (Salisbury, MD) was a long term system superintendent, who had a school named after him. (http://jmb.wcboe.org/about_us/history/mr__james_m__bennett)

(no relation I am aware of to person on article). Yet this person owns the article name: James M Bennett.

Should this be a "disambiguous" page?
