Surname[edit]

Should it be Beale or Clarke?

She was last credited as Beale yet she has stated on the show, including her last appearance, that her surname is Clarke.

Should wiki list it as Beale or Clarke? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.177.169 (talk) 16:44, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Beale because that is what she was credited as - it is her common name.Rain the 1 16:55, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I would say keep the article title as Beale as that is her commonly known name, but if she stated that on the show (and we have a source) then I dont see it as a problem. However... despite what she said on the show, if the BBC continued to list her as Beale in the credits then we have to go by that. Bleaney (talk) 16:56, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the article should stay the same but her name in the actual article should change. And in most divorces, people revert to their maiden name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.177.169 (talk) 17:02, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

in most divorces, people revert to their maiden name isnt good enough for Wikipedia, we need sources! And if the BBC continued to credit her as Beale we have to go by that despite what the character said on the show... after all, what if the character was lying? Bleaney (talk) 17:05, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You said you had a source in which Jane's maiden name is mentioned? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.177.169 (talk) 20:04, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In most divorces, people keep the same name. They would have to change it by deed poll. As would Jane. She called herself Clarke when flirting, which was probably to make herself feel more able to. But she hadn't actually changed her name. She was credited as Beale and that was her name. Stacey did that as well, calling herself Slater while flirting after her divorce, when her name was still Branning. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:12, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, she referred to herself as Clarke outside of flirting as well. And here is the source (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00h00d1) 81.20.188.79 (talk) 07:07, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That still says Jane Beale. Anyway, the name she used was not necessarily what her name actually was. She stays as "Lesley Jane Beale (née Clarke; previously Collins)". –AnemoneProjectors– 13:31, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you watch the clip, she refers to herself as Jane Clarke. therefore, her surname is Clarke. 81.20.179.232 (talk) 08:51, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So should it be Clarke, according to the clip it is. 81.20.179.232 (talk) 18:01, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see the clip, so can you tell me exactly what she said? –AnemoneProjectors– 10:19, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She said 'Jane Clarke's brand new life' in relation to Phil finding money that ian had hiddedn from her. here is the link again: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00h00d1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.187.61 (talk) 19:07, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She did say that yes but no, I say keep it as Beale. GeorgePing! 19:31, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How come, I have a reliable source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.187.61 (talk) 19:41, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plus, her name on the EastEnders website is Jane Clarke and this is a reliable source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.190.246 (talk) 10:55, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does it matter? It was for like a day, and highly unlikely to have been a legal change of name. I don't know why the website have changed it but we already know they make a lot of stupid mistakes. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:46, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was hardly for a day because she returned later in the year and so would have kept the same name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.20.188.99 (talk) 07:37, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jane's name is Clarke[edit]

It is right that the article is the common name but her name is not Beale it is Clarke. Firstly, in many episodes since her divorce from Ian, Jane explicitly said she was Jane Clarke. That is her name. Now people say that when Stacey was flirting she used the name Slater, when she was divorced from Bradley, but her name is now Branning. That may be true but Stacey remarried Bradley (and the registrar did say she was Stacey Slater before her remarriage) and Stacey then became Mrs Bradley Branning again. Jane has not got that luxury, seeing as she divorced Ian and has not remarried him since. Secondly, she was called Jane Clarke by others around her, such as the chef who came to find in her The Vic. Thirdly, she was credited as Jane Clarke in her last few episodes. Fourthly, the EastEnders website have her listed as Jane Clarke due to her name change. It makes no sense (in fact it is damn right inaccurate) for her to remain as a Beale on the page of this encyclopedia and it is increasingly frustration when we get these details wrong. It should be changed.--86.183.195.212 (talk) 01:21, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just because she called herself Jane Clarke it doesn't make that her name. Her last appearance was as Jane Beale. Divorced women do not automatically revert to their maiden names. This is a work of fiction and as such, she is Jane Collins, Jane Beale and Jane Clarke, and not "previously" any of them. So we really need to change the way we deal with the names of our characters. –AnemoneProjectors– 10:02, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, learn how to actually spell her name. Secondly, yes I am fully aware that divorced women do not automatically revert their names. She was credifted as Beale in that episode, but that was clearly a mistake made by the BBC. She changed her name in the show, she was addressed as such and she did change her name. In fact the BBC website have her down as Clarke, I mean this is nonsense and I cannot deal with your stubborness. Accept that you are wrong.--86.183.195.212 (talk) 12:58, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're being deliberately rude again. I don't see why anyone should listen to someone who is so rude. It wasn't clearly a mistake by the BBC. Do you have a reliable source that says the BBC made a mistake? Maybe they made a mistake in the other episodes. Stop reverting when I asked you to discuss first, or you'll be blocked. –AnemoneProjectors– 13:30, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
