Better reference for role in anti-Secession movement?
[edit]The statement with regard to her involvement in the California anti-Secession movement is referenced to a comment by an academic in the review of another book. Can a better source be found, specifically a work about Fremont?Wkharrisjr (talk) 19:43, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
Doing a little searching on line and I cannot find any reference to Fremont and the anti-secessionist movement except for the one passing reference to a passage in a book being reviewd.Wkharrisjr (talk) 20:45, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
The policy should be leaving references in, not taking them out. Scholars can add and refine information when encouraged to clarify; they cannot clarify when editors keep deleting lines of inquiry. Please leave these in.Vickberg (talk) 11:08, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
- Isn't it also a matter of undue weight? Other than the dust-up between these two academics, there doesn't seem to be any one else out there making these statements. Just because someone says something, it doesn't mean it needs to be in Wikipedia. Wkharrisjr (talk) 12:48, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
In Adam Goodheart's 1861 The Civil War Awakening (Vintage Books, 2012) he offers an extensive discussion of the role of Jessie Fremont & Rev. Thomas Starr King working together to preach anti-secessionist and anti-slavery sentiments. (Pages 218-266, "Gateways to the West.") King was a frequent visitor to Jessie Fremont's Black Point Home in San Francisco, which is near present day Fort Mason. StevenTorrey (talk) 23:08, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
