Cover art

[edit]

I think the license for the cover needs to be changed from "non-free". The cover art is derived from File:Minidisc.jpeg, which has the following license:

You are free:

  • to share – to copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • to remix – to adapt the work

Under the following conditions:

  • attribution – You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
  • share alike – If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.

This means under "share alike", the cover art must be free. The main difference between the images is a simple "remix", where the label is purple. Nice4What (talk) 10:25, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would recommend putting this under protection for now. People are nonstop editing this with things like "kanye dont love his fans".

The article states that the cover art is a "MiniDisc with purple tape". The purple part of the MiniDisc is NOT tape, it is the protective shutter that is part of a MiniDisc case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.46.12.204 (talk) 03:05, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The tracklist

[edit]

Guys, I promise I won't vandalize Wikipedia this time, I was wrong to edit tracklists without reliable source, I just didn't know how to provide reliable source, but thanks to Vistadan, I checked over the sound recordings. Oreratile1207 (talk) 19:27, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Oreratile1207: Don't add any sort of track list to the page, the only songs that are only maybe confirmed for the album are "We Got Love" and then two other unnamed snippets. Nice4What (talk) 10:45, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Oreratile1207: Again, stop adding a track list. "80 Degrees" and "Slave Name" are not official names and we don't even know if the previewing of those snippets still mean they'll be included in the album. Note that those two songs were previewed when September 29 was the official release date... many details of the album may have changed since. Also you're failing to cite any sources. Nice4What (talk) 16:47, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Track list

[edit]

@Oreratile1207: Again with the track list... Do not add "Stormy Night". There are no reliable sources stating that it will be included on Yandhi. It's just a leaked snipped and many in the past have been cut from West's albums. The name "Stormy Night" is also unofficial. If you haven't learned from now, see WP:RS. Please stop editing this article unless there are official reports on the album's development. I appreciate your passion for adding track list, but sometimes an upcoming album may not have one yet. Please discuss on the talk page first before restoring your edits. Nice4What (talk) 19:32, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

The paragraph in Yandhi#Third_recording:_Undetermined_release_date on how the album is delayed until after the lawsuits has only got 1 citation to back it up. Any more proof that this happened? Parttime18 (talk) 11:01, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unconfirmed rumor. May as well remove it from the article. Nice4What (talk) 14:17, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page name change to "Upcoming Kanye West album" of "Jesus Is King" instead of "Yandhi"

[edit]

I think it's safe to assume that Yandhi has been scrapped or retitled (much more by looking this guy's historial with album's name changes). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinnkerton (talkcontribs)

"Untitled Kanye West project" seems most apt (and in line with the Wikipedia manual of style) but let’s wait a little bit for clarity and for consensus. This page is already getting disrupted enough. We still have no idea if Jesus is King is a new album, the same album, or whatever. For all we know he could release two projects at the same time like Frank Ocean did. Trillfendi (talk) 21:30, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Keep it as Yandhi and we'll just move it to Jesus is King once that's confirmed. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 00:26, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the responses. Totally fine by me, in the end, is just one month away. Let's wait and see, who knows if this "Jesus Is King" project is released on that date. Pinnkerton (talk) 07:58, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since Jesus Is King has been confirmed, I think that this should be moved. mike•owen discuss 19:21, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

On second thoughts, I believe we should approach this with caution. Although Jesus Is King has been confirmed as the next album, no one has said that Yandhi is actually Jesus Is King. Jesus Is King may even be a completely different album that West has been working on, maybe almost completely unrelated to Yandhi. Unless we clearly know that Yandhi is, at least partly, a part of Jesus Is King, we should separate the two subjects. Just because Yandhi may never be released, especially since it was leaked the other month, it doesn't mean that it hasn't earned more than its fair share of media coverage to merit its own article (some album leaks have their own Wikipedia articles). In conclusion, I would only support a move of this page to Jesus Is King if it is clear that Yandhi is at least partly a part of Jesus Is King or if the two subjects are closely intertwined. After all, there might have been a completely different songwriting process for the creation of Jesus Is King. mike•owen discuss 21:40, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying this whole time. The problem is, everybody wants to be first instead of being accurate. Trillfendi (talk) 21:52, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MikeOwen: I disagree with what you're saying. If Jesus is King is released, we should just move the page to that title. All the information about Yandhi is covered as part of the album's development. The bootleg isn't notable enough to standalone, has no consistent track list, and was described by The Fader as "a minor story". Also... come on. (And note that "Garden", which was on the original track list for Yandhi, is part of Jesus is King.) Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 03:24, 6 September 2019 (UTC); Edited 00:45, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nice4What: I don't think that me asking a question on Reddit in any way makes my opinion less credible. I just thought that if asked people with a significant interest in Kanye, they might have read something that I've missed. I really don't think this is relevant to the discussion and don't want you to bring it up. I just want to get to the point, not bring anything trivial into the conversation. However, the point you make about the lack of media coverage for the Yandhi leaks is very valid. However, the creation of Yandhi has accumulated a lot of coverage already. On another note, some publications have stated that the future of Yandhi is unclear: it might have been shelved, but as I was saying in my previous post, Jesus Is King might be completely musically different from Yandhi. But then again, that could be explained by an evolution in the songwriting process. Actually, you might be right about the two being linked. I've just read an article with French Montana hinting that West's album going towards a spiritual direction (very Jesus Is King like). So actually you might be right: maybe a move could be in order, and if Yandhi turns out to be its own entity (like if it gets its own release), we could split the article. mike•owen discuss 09:56, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MikeOwen: I'd agree it'd be best to move this article to Jesus Is King and to split off a separate Yandhi article if it's ever announced/released as a separate album. Also decided to strike out my link to your Reddit post, what you said was right. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 00:45, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

From E! News, which is connected to West through Keeping Up with the Kardashian:

The Grammy winner will release his latest album Jesus Is King next month, his rep confirmed to E! News.

This is confirmation that Kanye's ninth studio album will be Jesus Is King. I suggest we rename the page and keep the information about Yandhi in the "Recording and production" section. Of course, if an album named Yandhi is ever released in the future, we can do a split from there. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 19:57, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Metro and Genius

[edit]

These are cited as unreliable sources by Wiki. Could someone find sources to replace the information they provide or delete it if you cannot do so? --Kyle Peake (talk) 04:54, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We can use Genius news reports, just not user-edited Genius lyrics. Where is Metro used as a source? I'll try to replace it. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 19:33, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Trillfendi: Hey, wanted to know which sources currently in the article you have an issue with? Not trying to goo back-and-forth reverting the issues template and I'll try to help out. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 19:35, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

At first glance, HipHopMore-n-More, HotNewHipHop, all social media, Highsnobiety, and TMZ are examples of things that need to go and be replaced by reliable sources. Trillfendi (talk) 19:46, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at perennial sources, there should be no issue with these. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 22:58, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You've been here long enough to know better, I'm sure. Trillfendi (talk) 23:23, 19 September 2019 (UTC):::[reply]
You're comment does help with the improvement of this article.. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 23:27, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you can't see why the likes of HotNewHipHop need to be removed, then I can't help you. Trillfendi (talk) 23:39, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
HotNewHipHop is used in plenty of hip-hop related articles. You may be unfamiliar with the site but it's not blacklisted or graylisted for being unreliable. I'm going to take off the template soon if this seems to be based on your personal understanding of the site's reliability. Maybe use the [better source needed] template instead and bring it to the talk page. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 23:42, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very familiar with the site (common fucking sense) and it's niche relativity to hip hop articles. That still doesn't hold up against the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, etc. (read: respectable music publications that actually do journalism) when the site is just a blog, not a reliable music source. The use of "HipHop-N-more", who by it's own admittance is a blog, is unprofessional to the point of embarrassment. Trillfendi (talk) 00:48, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Trillfendi: If you didn't notice, there was a discussion while ago on if HotNewHipHop should be an reliable source or not. Most editors agreed that the website is reliable. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 22:43, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All that aside, how difficult is it to wait for the album to be released for proper verification to even come forth instead of treating Wikipedia like a crystal ball and salivating at any morsel of speculative information or outright rumors? Trillfendi (talk) 00:52, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you're talking about the source HipHop-N-more, it was simply used to report on the leaks that occurred. I can remove it later since the leaks have since received better coverage. The only source that you could argue is based on "rumor" is the one stating that West is recording in Wyoming. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 11:51, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I addressed the reliance on primary sources which is to be avoided at all costs, therefore I didn’t retag the issue. There are only rare instances that Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are allowed to be used. Trillfendi (talk) 01:32, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The other sources appear fine now as Metro and Genius have since been removed @Nice4What:. Just not sure about TMZ. --Kyle Peake (talk) 22:11, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

TMZ being used for the October interview is alright since West was interviewed by the publication. Hopefully another source for recent recordings in Wyoming appear, though its worth noting TMZ was first to report the new ranch's purchase and Kim confirmed it days later. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 22:58, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Don't see what has gone wrong with ref 39.[1] It is obvious that PF is a reliable source, though there is no reason the cite the homepage... --Kyle Peake (talk) 09:46, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Genius

[edit]

Don't know why this is still being used on here, it's been cited as unreliable per discussion, most recently with this one. --Kyle Peake (talk) 08:47, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Genius can be used so long as we don't use the lyrics, which are user-generated. Their news reports are not. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks )

Bi-polar

[edit]

The bi-polar focus in the development section of the article is inappropriate. West made clear he was mis-diagnosed as bi-polar in the White House visit prior to his Uganda trip. Refinery29: West tells Trump Bi-polar was Misdiagnosis — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mistamystery (talkcontribs) 18:54, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mistamystery: Have you read the transcript of his visit to the White House...? Also, see this January 2019 interview. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 15:33, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Authors

[edit]

Inconsistent as some lay first names then last names while others do it in the opposite order, would fix manually but I am not sure which should be laid out as and also is there a script? --Kyle Peake (talk) 22:27, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology

[edit]

Should the following album Jesus Is Born really be listed as part of West's chronology, since it's not credited under his name on streaming devices like Kids See Ghosts was and he doesn't even have vocals? --Kyle Peake (talk) 22:49, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That Jesus Is Born exists should be mentioned in the lead, but not in the infobox. Sunday Service is a different act. We also don't put albums recorded by a band into the chronology of one member.--Lirim | Talk 22:55, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Kanye chronology in many different albums have included his collaborations Watch the Throne and Kids See Ghosts and his compilation Cruel Summer. Kanye is still a member of Sunday Service, and Jesus Is Born has been deemed a companion piece to this album. GA nominee

[edit]

@Nice4What: I have worked very hard on this article and it is almost up to GA standards, just requires the fixes we said about you doing for the themes and lyrics section then I'll have only a few more edits to make; you ready to undertake your share now? --Kyle Peake (talk) 10:52, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kyle Peake: Yep, I'll finish up themes and lyrics by the week's end and then look over the whole article for any remaining minor edits. Thanks for the ping. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 14:05, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nice4What: There's numerous edits that are likely to be made by me though after you have finished it but thanks... I'm slated to be the nominator though, correct? --Kyle Peake (talk) 14:35, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kyle Peake: Same plan as that last time we discussed it. You'd be lead nominator and I'd receive co-nomination credit. I am not too familiar with the entire GA nomination process (one review, one pending) but I think that should work, right? Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 14:40, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nice4What: Yeah I'll make sure to give you the credit on my user page, all set! Will the Ye review come first tho? --Kyle Peake (talk) 14:47, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kyle Peake: I don't think I have the time to give an in-depth review of Ye, considering how much time it took me to review KSG. Upon loking at the themes and lyrics section, what specifically are you looking for me to tune up? It seems the section explains the album's broad and specific themes, which is the GA standard. Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 14:20, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nice4What: Shouldn't every song be mentioned to keep consistency with West articles? --Kyle Peake (talk) 14:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, got it. I'll make sure every song is mentioned. Thanks! Nice4What (talk · contribs) – (Don't forget to share a Thanks ) 14:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We should split Yandhi into its own article

[edit]

It is very popular online, and is often regarded as the "Holy Grail of unreleased Kanye music". Because of this and the overwhelming information regarding it, I believe it should be its own article. Sussybaka6000 (talk) 02:08, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I also believe that we should compile Kanye's unreleased records into one article under "Unreleased music of Kanye West", but that Yandhi should still be its own article. Sussybaka6000 (talk) 02:11, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
