I've chosen to feature JS under the extended parenthesis as their is also a prolific romantic movelist with the same name, who might eventually be in Wikipedia herself. Philip Cross 21:25, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

MacShane?

[edit]

The purported romantic link with Denis MacShane seems unlikely, since he's in favour of the Iraq War, and a member of the Henry Jackson cabal. btw, was JS not married to/connected with Francis Wheen? AuntFlo (talk) 11:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The link with MacShane is surprising, but apparently true, if the Daily Mailis to be believed. Smith and Wheen were married 1985-93, according to his entry in this year's Who's Who?. Philip Cross (talk) 15:52, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move as requested per below as the primary topic, that is the only article by the precise title on Wikipedia, and where there is only one other topic with an existing article that needs to be distinguished.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:21, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Joan Smith (writer)Joan Smith — Clear primary meaning. The Canadian is Elizabeth Joan Smith, the red-linked biathlete does not even have an article, notability not established, and even if she did have an article she would likely be less important than the writer. We should have a hatnote to the Canadian. PatGallacher (talk) 11:06, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited passage

[edit]

Hi I moved this here as its uncited and is the type of claim that really does need one, please cite and replace, thanks Off2riorob (talk) 00:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In 2003 she was offered the MBE for her services to PEN, but refused the award. [citation needed]

O2RR, I agree. Citation found and added to the article. Philip Cross (talk) 08:40, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, many thanks Philip. Off2riorob (talk) 09:34, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged conflict of interest

[edit]

The WP:COI page notes: "An exception to editing an article about yourself or someone you know is made if the article contains defamation or a serious error that needs to be corrected quickly." I believe I have identified those edits where another editor might believe a COI exists (many of those with an IP address beginning with 92.). I don't see that any attempt has been made to "promote" the subject of this article, but obviously problematic material has been removed by such user(s). I shall therefore remove the COI template.from this article. Philip Cross (talk) 21:00, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 16:38, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
