"After graduating from Smyrna's Campbell High School, she attended Georgia State University but did not graduate. She later headed to New York City to pursue a career in acting."
Julia Roberts did NOT attend any university. See article in British Vogue: https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/julia-roberts-british-vogue-cover-interview Julia Roberts did NOT attend any university. See article in British Vogue.
She also says it here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10715447/Julia-Roberts-54-shares-thrilling-two-oldest-children-17-COLLEGE.html
She went straight to New York. Dtizz (talk) 23:57, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is an interesting case. It was first added in 2014 (Special:Diff/603678680) and was supported by the IGN source at the end of the paragraph. But that's the only source I can find from the time. All other sources supporting it are from after 2014. The way I see it, either Roberts says she didn't attend college because of how briefly she was there, or IGN got it wrong and it proliferated after it was added to Wikipedia. It's hard to say without more information. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 02:57, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is very unclear..
- There's a New York Times article titled JULIA ROBERTS FACES A TEST OF CHARACTER from 1990 that says:
- "Ms. Roberts decided to enter the acting profession right out of high school. I had convinced myself that I had three choices: I could get married, I could go to college, or I could move to New York. Nobody was asking to get married and I didn't want to go away to school, so I moved."
- There's also JULIA ROBERTS BOUNCES BACK (Altman, Sheryl, Biography, 10927891, Nov98, Vol. 2, Issue 11) says:
- "Almost immediately after graduation, she went to New York, where, while working in a shoe store to support herself"

- The earliest archive of the IGN source I can find on archive.org is this, from February 2009. It is suspiciously similar to the Wikipedia entry as it was at least as far back as January 2007 ([1]), complete with an uncited claim about Roberts having attended GSU. The GSU claim was added in 2006 without explanation here. It seems reasonable to assume that IGN copied from Wikipedia here, so as we have several sources suggesting that she did not go I am inclined to believe them and disbelieve IGN. - Nice work! It seems like circular logic to rely on IGN given the timing of this. I support removing the mention of university altogether (possibly with a html comment?). OXYLYPSE (talk) 21:56, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

- Per the above discussion and the sources we've found (and haven't found), I've removed it. We might also consider leaving a notice somewhere, whether a text comment in the article or at the top of the talk page here. Congratulations Dtizz! It looks like your first edit might have been uncovering a serious case of citogenesis! Thebiguglyalien (talk) 03:21, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
