Jyotsna Vaid is one of the leading researchers on second language acquisition in the U.S. In fact, I recently spoke to another researcher in the field who asserted that she is one of two professors responsible for training most of the young second language researchers in the U.S. (the other being Judy Kroll). As I added to the article, her best-known contribution to the field is examining the role of laterality in second language representation, and her research suggests that the right hemisphere subserves second language acquisition and processing in a way that it does not in first language acquisition and processing. I have added inline citations to some reviews of the topic that she has written, which include discussion of her own work in this vein and the work of others. In general, Vaid is an extremely prolific researcher in the field of second language research, and she has published many peer-reviewed articles on a variety of topics relevant to second language research, which I mention in the article. In short, she is more noteworthy than many other researchers who I have written articles about, none of which have been tagged for speedy deletion. I hope that this explanation and my addition to the article discussing and citing her research on laterality and second language research will be sufficient to establish notability, or at least to preclude the article from speedy deletion status. I declined performing this speedy deletion as I think the notability of this subject is better decided by AfD if that is deemed to be necessary. It is not a clear cut enough case for CSD at any rate. Mfield (talk) 02:09, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
