Colors

[edit]

From the K-State website: The school color Royal Purple was adopted in the fall of 1896 by a committee of “Miss Minnie L. Copeland, Jr. and Miss Winnifred Houghton and Miss Ina E. Holyrod, of the senior class, and perhaps one or more others.” Although K-State’s only official color is purple, white has been used as a complimentary color for many years. Silver is also a common second or third color. Former head basketball coach Cotton Fitzsimmons incorprated gold during his two-year stint (1968-70), but gold or yellow has not been used since that time. The term “Purple Pride,” which is often used in association with KSU athletics, was given rise during the tenure of head football coach Vince Gibson (1967-74).[1]

I think white should be listed as well.Topgun530 (talk) 18:13, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the cite you give makes clear that only Royal Purple should be listed as the school color, since it is in fact the only official color. Otherwise, how do we pick the second color to list, since white, silver and black are all used as "secondary" colors? Notably, this makes Kansas State fairly unique among schools. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 18:49, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All-time record

[edit]

According to Chris Stassen and James Howell's websites, the team has an all-time record of 453–598–41, as of the end of the 2008 season.[2] According to KSU, the record is 452-598-41. The difference lies in 1919, when Stassen and Howell show KSU defeating Emporia State 12-0. It would be great if someone could clear up this issue. In the meantime, we'll go with the university's numbers. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 21:01, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have confirmed the university is correct: there was no game against Emporia State in 1919. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 21:52, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All-time record v. conferences

[edit]

The compilation done by Stassen is great, but it's wrong in some places -- if you follow through on his OWN links. The 1-1 record against South Carolina is wrongly counted for the ACC because USC was in the Southern Conference at the time. I'm pretty sure the numbers on this page were correct before they were changed to Stassen's numbers. I'll look into it. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 23:22, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the numbers were all correct before. Stassen missed the win over La-Lafayette in 1994 as a Big West win; the correct series data was 10-2. He missed two losses to Cincinnati in 1951 and 1952 as MAC games; the correct series data was 7-3. The SEC series was properly 3-12 due to a forfeit by Mississippi State. Finally, he missed the 2-2 record against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State from 1915 to 1919 as SWC games; the correct series data was 7-13. I'll revert the standings to what they were before on this page. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 02:51, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
