Philanthropy

[edit]

I suggest we remove the phrase 'and Christian philanthropist' from the lede, on the grounds of lack of evidence (WP:V).

A somewhat derogatory article on Ken Costa in the Guardian describes him as 'bankroller-in-chief of Alpha International'.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/nov/07/pass-notes-ken-costa; and he sits on many worthy charities; but there is no real evidence of his giving. It may be that he is simply a modest man who doesn't brag, but any claim, especially in the lede, should be verifiable.

There was a similar discussion in the Talk page of Richard Desmond, where an editor wrote: 'there should be a disagreement with his statement as a "prominent philanthropist" since he isn't that prominent and his philanthropy work is not that well known. It would be fine to say he engages in philanthropy, but he is not a philanthropist.'[[1]]

As for the adjective 'Christian' I don't see that as noteworthy. It applies to 2.5bn other people.

I'd also amend the heading 'Christian philanthropy' to 'Christian beliefs'.
