Jinja vs Shrine
[edit]Is it not the case that we use English on the English language version? Shouldn't this article be "Kibitsu Shrine"? The Kamo Shrines are "Shrine"s and many others. Puchiwonga (talk) 10:09, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation
[edit]Perhaps this should be a disambiguation page?
What is to be made of Commons:Category:Kibitsuhiko-jinja and Commons:Category:Kibitsu Jinja?
Would it be a good idea to merge the text of this article with Kibitsuhiko jinja?
According to Kotodamaya here, Kibitsu jinja may refer to
- Kibitsuhiko jinja here at 1043 Ichinomiya, Okayama city, Okayama
- Kibitsu jinja (Bingo) here at 400 Miyauchi, Fukuyama city, Hiroshima
Kibitsu jinja (Bitchu)Kibitsu jinja here at 931 Kibitsu, Okayama city, Okayama
According to the "Nationwide List of Ichinomiya at " p. 3,
- Kibitsuhiko jinja was the ichinomiya of Bizen Province
- Kibitsu jinja (Bingo) was the ichinomiya of Bingo Province
Kibitsu jinja (Bitchu)Kibitsu jinja was the ichinomiya of Bitchū Province
It is not unreasonable to merge the text of Kibitsuhiko jinja into this article? What do we make of these two websites?
What next? --Ansei (talk) 18:23, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- Trying to resolve the problem, by collecting the information that I am sure of. Haven't checked the ranking or to which province they belong. Kibitsuhiko/Kibitsu could be synonyms, so we should not rely on names too much when looking up sources. Feel free to add to it. Leaving out the one in Hiroshima (Kibitsu_jinja_(Bingo)) as this does not cause confusion as far as I understand.
- Shrine 1: location; has National Treasure Honden-Haiden from 1425; shrine homepage; name: "Kibitsu Jinja" (per shrine homepage); matches most or all of the Kibitsu Jinja article
- Shrine 2: location; shrine homepage; name: "Kibitsuhiko Shrine" (per shrine homepage); matches at least part (image, lead) of the Kibitsuhiko jinja article
- Interestingly, shrine 1 and 2 are relatively close to each other (about 1 km apart), so perhaps there is some relation/cooperation/... between the two.
- Now there is also Kibitsu jinja (Bitchu), which also claims to be in Okayama but does not say much else. As far as I can see there are only 2 notable Kibitsu(hiko) shrines in Okayama, so we'd have to get rid of one article. My suggestion would be to check the ranking and associated provinces for shrine 1/2 and then merge everything into two articles: Kibitsu Shrine and Kibitsuhiko Shrine (per respective shrine's homepage and MOS). I believe that Shrine 1 is sufficiently more famous than other Kibitsu shrines, so that it can go to Kibitsu Shrine (instead of putting a disambig page there). To link all the articles together we could use things like {{For}}, {{Other places}}, {{Distinguish}},... at the start of the articles. What do you think? bamse (talk) 22:29, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, yes, thanks. I deleted Kibitsu jinja (Bitchu) and merged the history and inline cite support into Kibitsu jinja. As suggested, I also added the Other places headnote → Kibitsu jinja (disambiguation).
This discussion thread solves an immediate problem and it also explains what was done and why. This makes our decision-making transparent for anyone in the future who may have questions. --Ansei (talk) 14:19, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

- Please make this article and the Kibitsuhiko Shrine article say SHRINE (English) instead of 'jinja' (Japanese) like other shrines. 183.77.65.210 (talk) 15:37, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Kibitsu Jinja → Kibitsu Shrine – It is policy to use "Shrine" in place of "jinja". --Relisted. -- tariqabjotu 02:34, 19 September 2013 (UTC) ChubbyWimbus (talk) 13:30, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- Most (but not all) Shinto shrines use the "XXX Shrine" format (see List of Shinto shrines in Japan). Any reason this one should not? On the other hand, there is a DAB page at Kibitsu jinja (disambiguation). What about the other entities there? — AjaxSmack 00:26, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Unless there some sort of policy rationale that I am unaware of, I see no reason why this should not follow suit with the majority of shrines. The shrine in Hiroshima and Kibitsuhiko Shrine I think should also be changed to "shrine". Someone also mentioned this in the above discussion but was ignored.
