Why Kurukshetra..![edit]

Is the article about geographical or mythical Kurukshetra[edit]

The following lines from the opening paragraph:

"Kurukshetra earns its name from King Kuru, the ancestor of Kauravas and Pandavas. What makes it really important is the theory that this was where the Kurukshetra war of the Mahabharata was fought and the Bhagavad Gita emerged during the war when Lord Krishna found Arjuna in a terrible dilemma"

There is no concrete and objective evidence suggesting whether either king kuru or Kauravas and Pandavas ever existed. Mahabharata war is only believed to have happened by many people. It cannot be taken as a historical fact. I think these lines have to be refined to make it more authentic and objective as per wikipedia standards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Esrujan (talkcontribs) 06:48, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hinduism is based on Vedas and Puranas[edit]

Esurjan.. Hinduism is based on Vedas and Puranas, It is mentioned in Puranas about King Kuru and Bharata dynasty..If u have doubt on this please read Puranas for this...U can find one in Krishna Mueseum, Kurukshetra. In Kurukshetra University, Library.. you will also find manuscripts depicting war at Kurukshetra, so please take a reference on that..which are taken as hard evidenece .. if u don find them as reference then ur doubting Hinduism.

A wikipedia article should adhere to policy of Neutral Point Of View. It should neither reflect personal beliefs of editor nor assume any kind of belief from the reader. How come it is the question of neutrality??? Please explain! I dont get your point..and what do you want to change in the article..If you have to go ahead and make a change with references and stuff and valid reasons.. Regards --Shekhartagra (talk) 07:49, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Point of View[edit]

The fact that a war took place between Pandavas and Kauravas in Kurukshetra is very much true according to the epic Mahabharata, the Puranas and numerous other literature of Hindu scriptures. My point was that it has to be explicitly mentioned in that way so that any neutral reader would consider it credible. For an outsider, it may look like the article is written with a bias unless the facts are substantiated with proper references. Hope my point is understood.

I still don understand what is biased??? It is clearly written in article that it is According to Puranas..Please read the article carefully. Your edits had contained the words that were not appropiate, somewhere sense of the article was disturbed and it was like a regular conversation or narration. Do you know what is a district and what is a headquarter??? Does anything exist like Headequarter in India??? Please gather proper knowledge and edit sense before making an edit. --Shekhartagra (talk) 14:47, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

--Shekhartagra (talk) 14:33, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the phrase "According to ..." in my edit sometime ago when I have written in the talk page.

A town/city which is the seat of government of a district is being referred to as the "headquarters" of a district. Please see this article List_of_districts_of_India where there is a column of "headquarters" for all tables starting from the second table where it refers to the city/town where the government of the district works from.

Please refrain from personal comments about other Wikipedia editors. My only point here is to discuss about the article that is being edited.

Well, as far as I know..there is no term exist as Headquarter in Indian consitution... as far as that article is concerned , it refers to a govt. website.. and no where on that website of Kurukshetra it is written that its headquarter is Kurkshetra... --Shekhartagra (talk) 12:26, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kurukshetra town and district[edit]

Please read the official website of the Kurukshetra district - http://kurukshetra.nic.in/general/location.htm, where it is clearly written that the Kurukshetra town is the headquarters of the district,Joy1963 (talk) 13:56, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok!! The headquarter this website refers is as Secretariat or "Zila Sachivalya"..That is what is located in Sector-13 of Kurukshetra..and town here is being refered to as Urbanised Area. So please first make your facts clear before 'Copying' and 'Pasting' stuff on Wikipedia.

Thanks and Regards Shekhar Tagra --Shekhartagra (talk) 10:47, 1 January 2010 (UTC) --Shekhartagra (talk) 10:49, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am again refering you to another two Haryana government websites (not copying and pasting, please mind your language), where it is clearly written that mini secretariats (secretariat as per your version) are actually office complexes constructed in the district headquarters in Haryana including Kurukshetra.[1][2]. Please also note that your facts (!), (a) district headquarters=secretariat and (b) town=urbanized area are not mentioned the website, which I referred earlier, please substantiate them with proper reference. For your reference, here is another Haryana Government website, which states that the city of Kurukshetra is the headquarters of Kurukshetra district.[3]

You yourself are proving my points... Read again what you have written and read what I wrote..I cant figure it out what actually you want to prove!! --Shekhartagra (talk) 13:51, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you can not figure it out, please, let me remind you again. Your points were:

  1. district headquarters do not exist in India, and if at all, any government website refers "x" town as the headquarters of "y" district, then actually,
  2. headquarters means secretariats and
  3. town means urbanized area in that particular website.

I tried to prove that none of them is correct. I think, by now you have also understood what is correct. Now, let me come to the point.

Actually, I want the creation of two separate pages:

  1. Kurukshetra
  2. Kurukshetra (town)

and to change the present Kurukshetra (disambiguation) page, as follows:

Kurukshetra may refer to:

Which will remove all ambuiguities.Joy1963 (talk) 14:47, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you go ahead and make the necessary disamiguation page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tsayer (talkcontribs) 08:14, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinate error[edit]

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for Kurukshetra: Instead of 30°00′N 76°27′E as shown on the map of Kurukshetra at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurukshetra it should be 29°57'41.90"N 76°49'46.52"E

50.92.199.99 (talk) 05:23, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Improved in part, declined in part: Per the lede, the article is currently about the district. This map from the district's website showed that the existing coordinates were in the district, but in the far western part. I've moved them to a place closer to the geographical center of the district, but not to the recommended coordinates which were too far to the south and in a particular town. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 16:09, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal: separate the region from the modern town[edit]

I think that the readers would be better served if we had two articles, one on the historic region and the other on the modern town. We could leave the historic region here and split the town material off into a Kurukshetra (town) article. What do you all think? --Bejnar (talk) 07:46, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding and Improving the content[edit]

Kindly don't copy and paste stuff to the article, please discuss it in talks. Also, before adding anything, see if the details are already in the article or not. I noticed some things were mentioned twice. Also, I saw Kurukshetra (2000 film) in "In Popular Culture" section. Seriously?? Don't add literally anything you feel like to add. A bunch of sections are there that seem like promotional content, like cab service is available here, airport is in delhi and chandigarh, railways pass from here and where and what not. Don't do that.meowmeow \S-) (talk) 13:06, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
