Enough with the mess up

Linh Nga or Linh Nga Nguyen?

This artist, full name Linh Nga Nguyen, appears to use Linh Nga as her stage name, but this talk page is about Linh Nga Nguyen. It might possibly be a way to avoid page-move dramas if a consensus could be reached to use "Linh Nga"? --Shirt58 (talk) 12:38, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

All Vietnamese people go by their given name and do not use their surname. When addressing the President of Vietnam, Nguyễn Tấn Dũng, you address him as Mr. Dũng and not Mr. Nguyễn, per Vietnamese_name#Given name. So of course Linh Nga Nguyen (should actually be Nguyen Linh Nga) doesn't use her surname. Her and I are just following standard Vietnamese practice. I've tried to discuss with HomeAlone, but they refuse and place a protected tag. Bgwhite (talk) 20:56, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
While I might quibble with the "All Vietnamese people" generalisation, I've tried getting responses from User talk:Homealone1990 as you have, with no success. I guess it's up to us to do the tidy-ups. If we want to. --Shirt58 (talk) 13:16, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk) 19:54, 24 June 2012 (UTC)(talk) 19:53, 24 June 2012 (UTC) :Vietnamese people usually use their given name instead of surname. For instant, Linh Nga Nguyễn (Nguyen Linh Nga) basically call Linh Nga. That's why this artist professional name is Linh Nga. The Vietnamese audience just knowing her by her professional name "Linh Nga". They don't know or even care about her surname "Nguyen". They just simply call her "Linh Nga". Thank you for your supporting and cooperation. Homealone1990 (talk) 19:53, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply, Homealone1990! I am concerned that there may possibly have been a "cut-and-paste move" somewhere in the article history. I'll have a look into this if I get a chance. Thanks again. --Shirt58 (talk) 13:42, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
The problem being is that is not how other Vietnamese's names are treated. Category:Vietnamese footballers, Category:Vietnamese actors, and Category:Generals of the Vietnam People's Army have all three names. Why should Linh Nga Nguyễn be treated differently? Vietnamese and Brazilian names are similar in that there are alot of people with a common surname (Nguyễn / Silva), so they use other names. The past President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was just called Lula. But the article title uses the full name. Generally, I see the surname dropped if it is a pseudo name or they work and are popular in the west. Surname should also go first, so the article's title should be Nguyen Linh Nga. Can always have a redirect from Linh Nga. Bgwhite (talk) 21:26, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, in the CJKV sprachbund, family names go first, then personal names follow, and Nguyễn (Han tu:阮) would go formally first. But Nguyen Linh Nga chooses to call herself Linh Nga Nguyen, or Linh Nga for short. It's near to 2 am, s58 time. To be continued. Or not.--Shirt58 (talk) 15:49, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Oi vay, would be helpful if there was some good definitive answer. I think Linh Nga Nguyễn is a mistake on somebody's part here. The Vietnamese article does things "normally", aka last name first, Nguyễn Linh Nga. It is the norm that Vietnamese people choose to just go by their first name. She isn't doing anything different than most actors. As she doesn't do anything geared to the western audience, following normal Vietnamese convention would be best, including last name first. I'll leave it up to you as you are the more neutral party and I'll abide by what you choose. On a bigger note, the article is horrible. Most of the references you can't find or are made up. Refs 10, 11 and 12 are examples of made up refs. Images are up for deletion. I could start gutting the article and finding better refs, but I don't want to step on toes. You can clean it up or I can with your permission. Bgwhite (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

June 2013 Article Assessment

Currently, this is a Start-class article.

  • Description of Start-class: An article that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources. The article has a usable amount of good content but is weak in many areas, usually in referencing. Quality of the prose may be distinctly unencyclopedic, and MoS compliance non-existent; but the article should satisfy fundamental content policies, such as notability and BLP, and provide enough sources to establish verifiability. No Start-Class article should be in any danger of being speedily deleted.
  • Recommendations: A) The article needs sources that are in English, reliable, and neutral. B) The prose should be re-written in less of an essay format and more neutrally. C) Perhaps remove some of the in-depth personal data about the marriage, family and focus more on professional accomplishments that can be verified and have independent reviews.

Do not change page's name for personal reason

This person real and art name is Linh Nga, please don't move or change her name for no reason. Thanks everyone.-User:homealone (talk) 21:53, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

She is Linh Nga

This artist known as Linh Nga for decades. I think community should respect that. Muahechieuthangdung (talk) 00:03, 22 mar 2018 (UTC)

@Muahechieuthangdung: In the Vietnamese Wikipedia her name is Nguyễn Linh Nga not Linh Nga Jannaalo (talk) 22:13, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

@Jannaalo: Are you her dad? Or her ex.husbands? Brother? Son? Daughter? How do you know her bith name? you have the copy of her birth certificate? And why do you try to vandalize this artist's page? Unhappy or something? Did you check "Demi Moore"'s wiki page for example? Her birth name and art name are different, and her wikipedia page's name is her art name, the name which people know her the most, and perhaps she wanted to know by that name. Even you're Linh Nga's dad you - still - don't have the right to choose which name is best for Linh Nga. It is her own choice, and yes, people's choice. This is a community and please be nice, and respectful. You've been messing up this page and other pages so many times lately. We're watching you. You be careful, stop vandalizing pages. congdungngonhanh (talk) 01:13, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

  • WP:COMMONNAME is the relevant policy here, and it’s pretty clear on the subject: Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources). Beeblebrox (talk) 20:24, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
That being said, I have indefinently move-protected the page to stop the move-warring. Any further attempts to change the title will need to go through the requested moves process and attain a consensus before being moved by an administrator. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

In the Vietnamese Wikipedia her name is Nguyễn Linh Nga not Linh Nga. Jannaalo (talk) 20:30, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, you seem to be deliberately ignoring the actual content of the policy I cited above, maybe try reading it again. What Wikipedias in other languages do is completely irrelevant to how we name articles here, so no matter how many times you say that it won’t change anyone’s mind. I see from your talk page that the same policy I cited has already been explained to you so I don’t know what else to tell you except please actually look at the policy instead of just repeating the same toothless argument. To be clear, I’m not taking a side here. I do not know what the majority of English-language reliable sources say this woman’s name is, but I do know that that is how we determine how to name an article. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:40, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Pages Needing Protection

I am the creator of this page, I would like to request a full protection for this page. Please keep the Page Name as "Linh Nga". This artist is using this name/title (Linh Nga) only - for her whole life. High level of IP, page move, editing vandalism. Appreciate your help! homealone1990 (talk) 00:55, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Not done @Homealone1990: page protection requests need to go to WP:RFPP. — xaosflux Talk 15:00, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Need to foil the saboteurs

Some saboteurs keep creating fake wiki user names in purpose to destroy articles, including this article. Need someone to watch this page carefully. Saboteaur: Jannaalo, Cotonkin, Vietnam Centrer. Please watch these accounts.muahechieuthangdung (talk) 19:05, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

@Muahechieuthangdung: i'm not a fake user. i'm actually a extended confirmed user. So please do not make false accusations against me, otherwise I could also report you for that .If you want respect from others on Wikipedia, start by respecting others (Do not lie to Them or about them). Stop lying and spreading false information. Jannaalo (talk) 14:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

@Jannaalo: You've vandalized this page. You deleted her works, you changed her 2nd husband name to a wrong person. She married to a man name Jonnhy, not someone name Roy Finch. Roy Finch is a film director, he is in a marriage with actress Susan Landau Finch . Watch out! Brandonrollan8 (talk) 15:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

some really poor writing in personal life section

Subsequently, the most intensive social storms were dumped up all over Linh Nga.[57] From her engagement to Thuyet, the doubts about her success with the potent support of the underworld.[58] Her life and successful career were thrown into the abyss of grief and loss.[59][60]

just... no. I don’t know what a “social storm” is or how you dump it on someone, that seems like broken English/bad translation, and “thrown into the abyss of grief and loss“ is not the WP:NPOV tone expected of an encyclopedia. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:36, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

@Beeblebrox: If you see not good/clear sentences, then you can add your contribution to the articles by fixing/adjusting the sentences, instead of bring it here like it is a big deal, bad thing to you. Remember this page has been moved, changed, sentences cut off by vandalizers. We're trying our best to make the article better, so if you do have that positiveness, then, we thank you for your contribution. homealone1990 (talk) 22:39, 14 April 2018 (UTC) -

It’s perfectly normal end expected that editorial problems be discussed on the talk page. The other issues with the page do not excuse writing that makes no sense or expresses emotions rather than facts. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:39, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Personal life

I have removed her children's names several times now. The applicable policy is WP:Minors and persons judged incompetent#Editing on any other person. Unless her children are adults, they should not be identified in the article; even if they are adults, we should not name them unless their names are commonly mentioned in the press.

I have also left a hidden note about the mention of her marriage having ended—right now the article says it was her second marriage. If we are to include this information, we really need to first say she was twice married, and when, and maybe to who! All we have right now is an account of her and a fiancé having broken their engagement. If there are no reliable sources on her having been married, then the bit about her marruiage having ending should be left out. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:11, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Update: I found two marriages in the infobox, so I imported information to the body paragraph. I also moved the references there. However, there was a direct conflict between the infobox stating she was married to Thuyet Buon Vua and the body section saying she was only engaged to him during those years. I went with the version in the body since it had references. Since I see there is a section just above about the prose in the Personal life section—emotional and unclear material that I began by removing—I'm going to ping Beeblebrox, who started that section, in case he has an opinion on this related material. I cannot evaluate Vietnamese-language sources, and I have also changed "American Vietnamese" in the lead to "Vietnamese working in the United States", since I didn't see anything in the infobox about her having US citizenship. But I am wondering whether this article should be flagged at the BLP noticeboard to find more editors able to read and interpret the Vietnamese sources. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:10, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
I see the children's names have been added again. There does seem to be a proper source, but WP:BLPNAME says "The presumption in favor of privacy is strong in the case of family members ... may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." I'm not convinced this is the case here. Kendall-K1 (talk) 17:01, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
I think it very much is not the case. I've removed them once more and inserted hidden notes suggesting anyone who thinks the names should be included as an exception to policy should come here to discuss the matter. Thanks for your work on the references. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:33, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

User Kendall-K1 - Obviously Vandalism

User Kendall-K1 is performing same negative behavior by removing/deleting/changing appropriate information from articles. Should be blocked from editing. This person is creating multiple Wikipedia accounts to attack with personal hate/purposes. Please double check. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Homealone1990 (talkcontribs) 22:08, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

This is the wrong place to post this. You want WP:ANI. Kendall-K1 (talk) 22:44, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
Indeed! The allegation of sockpuppetry is also worrying.
Homealone1990. You should not make allegations without good reason as that is likely to be seen as a personal attack. If you believe that you have a good reason to complain then you need to explain your reasons at WP:API or file a sockpuppetry report. Just be aware that there is such a thing as a WP:BOOMERANG for people who complain unjustly. --DanielRigal (talk) 00:22, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

citekill

@Homealone1990: You added a couple of cites to material that is already well cited. Per WP:CITEKILL I have removed these. What is your concern here exactly? Are you saying the existing cites don't support the text? In that case we could remove the existing cites in favor of the new ones. Kendall-K1 (talk) 23:02, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

@Homealone1990: I see you have added one of these back in. Can you respond here please? Kendall-K1 (talk) 00:12, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Date of infobox photo

@Homealone1990: Why did you remove the date from the infobox photo caption? Per the template doc at Template:Infobox person, we normally include the date. It seems especially useful here, since she is unlikely to appear the same today as she did when she was 18. Kendall-K1 (talk) 23:36, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Failed verification for Inside This Peace

@Congdungngonhanh: You removed a "failed verification" tag here: [6] Can you point out where it says in that source[7] that the film "was chosen to be premiered in the 'Hollywood Short Film Festival'"? I don't see the festival mentioned at all.

Please leave the tag in place until this discussion has been concluded. Kendall-K1 (talk) 02:06, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
