Talk:List of Archie Comics characters

Neither Archie's Gang nor Minor characters in Archie Comics is an appropriate page to have on Wikipedia. An article called "Archie's Gang" could hypothetically conform to guidelines as an article, but as it currently stands, the page is a character list which serves, as the Archie Comics navbox suggests, as the "main characters" counterpart to the minor characters list. A list of minor characters is, by definition, not sufficiently notable to be the subject of a page on Wikipedia. If these characters are to be listed, they should be listed on the main list. The only appropriate method of dividing the main list into multiple lists is by comic (ie. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats, etc.), not by the major/minor distinction. Merge with individual character articles

[edit]

There are a number of Archie Comics characters who are sufficiently independently notable to justify their own articles, however the majority of Archie Comics characters do not fall into this category. As such, I am recommending that the following articles be merged into this list: Jason Blossom, Forsythe and Gladys Jones, Hal and Alice Cooper, Fred and Mary Andrews, Jellybean Jones, Hermione Lodge, Cricket O'Dell, Samantha Smythe, Sheila Smythe, Samson Smythe, Woodrow "Bingo" Wilkin, III, Wilma Wilkin, Uncle Herman, Tony Weatherbee, and Wendy Weatherbee. Neelix (talk) 16:42, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have a better idea. Jason Blossom, Forsythe and Gladys Jones, Hal and Alice Cooper, Fred and Mary Andrews, Jellybean Jones, Hermione Lodge, Tony Weatherbee and Wendy Weatherbee should instead be merged into Families of Archie's Gang. By the same token, Samantha Smythe, Sheila Smythe, Samson Smythe, Woodrow "Bingo" Wilkin, III, Wilma Wilkin and Uncle Herman should be merged into That Wilkin Boy. However, you may be correct about Cricket O'Dell. Man from Canada (talk) 17:49, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That would be an acceptable merge option as well. I would support either course of action. Neelix (talk) 20:36, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've adjusted the merger tags appropriately. Man from Canada (talk) 06:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Keller

[edit]

I don't see any evidence at this point that Kevin Keller is not going to be at least as prominent as, say, Chuck Clayton. What evidence that does exist goes the other way. Archie Comics has created a "First Appearance" promotional icon, which makes little sense if this character is not intended to be of a similar status to those whose appearances recur relatively frequently. The Miami Herald says that Keller's debut is "much heralded". Again, this makes little sense if the debut is of a minor character. Dan Parent said in an interview that that Kevin would be back in Veronica #205. I might add that the image of Keller will be deleted from the server by Wiki policy if the image is not used in an article (requiring a duplication of effort to re-crop and re-load if it becomes indisputable that Wikipedia should have an image of him), and I think it helps the presentation of this article to have a bit of colour added to what is otherwise reams of black and white text. An image for another character cannot just be used here without creating a new use rationale since a separate rationale is required for every article a "fair use" image is used for. If a year, or even six months, go by and Keller has been little seen, I would then agree that what is currently the most reasonable presumption (that he is intended to be one of the second tier of main characters) had been rebutted.Bdell555 (talk) 02:58, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I assume Archie Comics plans on keeping Kevin around, but even if a character is given a lot of prominence at first, most Archie characters end up in rarely-used roles. It takes a substantial amount of time to establish any character as a main character. Additionally, I believe one of the requirements for the "main" characters on this list should be that they have already earned their own article. For now, we could compromise by putting Kevin in Auxiliary Members of Archie's Gang, and see how his role develops in the future. Man from Canada (talk) 05:42, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was stupid and dropped Kevin's "auxillary" description from the article before checking the talk page, since I saw he had listings as both main and minor character. Feel free to revert if necessary Lexprod (talk) 14:45, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ginger Lopez

[edit]

Ginger has been depicted as being lesbian, or somewhere under the LGBT spectrum, in some parts of the Archieverse in recent years. She's implied to have something going on with Nancy in Afterlife with Archie, and in the now-defunct "Riverdale Rescue" game, she could only be paired romantically with female characters. 86.11.164.109 (talk) 20:40, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hoax

[edit]

Abbey Finn was added as a hoax in this edit to a page which was merged into this one, and that incorrect information persisted for 13 years, until it was revealed on social media. The hoax should not be added back. Jonathunder (talk) 02:40, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
