Muslim Converts as Prominent copts!

[edit]

There are few names of muslim convert to Christianity from Egypt who were added to the "prominent copts" which I don't know why? Queen nazly and Magdi allam converted to Roman Catholicism not even coptic catholicism and they did that after leaving egypt. Mohammed hegazy is just a guy who practiced his basic right of choosing his own faith. I don't know why he is prominent? Frankly I'm intimidated by that, as if don't have prominent copts and we are just padding the list or as if we are scoring points against muslims!! so immature! we are much better than that —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coptic ray (talkcontribs) 03:12, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I see what you mean. We should definitely get rid of the guys are Roman Catholics and not Coptic Catholics. And, even then, the Catholic Copts are really only ethnic "Copts". In a religious context, they are technically not "Coptic" as that would usually just refer to the Orthodox; as well, the Catholic and Protestant Egyptians—especially the latter—have abandoned a lot of the customs in the Coptic Church, thus being one of the reasons that distuingish them from the Copts. Even while there is not a lot of them, the "Coptic" Evangelicals and other Egyptian Protestants have converted few people, and quite surprisingly, a lot of them were Muslims—not even Copts to begin with. There needs to be a way to properly differentiate between "Roman Catholic" converts, "Coptic" Catholics and "Egyptian" Protestants in a way that doesn't confuse the identities. ~ Troy (talk) 19:45, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that we should remove those who are not Copts. Copts are, in fact, are not Arabs, they are their own group. I am going to remove the Muslims-turned-Christian people because they are not Copts, they are Arabs, and they don't follow the neither of the 2 Coptic denominations. Have any problems. The image Image:Boutros Boutros-Ghali.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Any updates on this? Has Boutros-Ghali complained over unauthorized use of his image? Mwahcysl (talk) 12:13, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No reply? No proof that permission has been given for the image to hold? 48 hours and I will take it down unless solid, court-ordered proof is given that the image can be shown here. Mwahcysl (talk) 21:35, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This list has too many redlinks. It does not appear to be a notable list per se. It therefore must be justified as a navigational aid, meaning that the majority of linked names are blue links (linking to an article or a section of an article) or are links to articles that someone intends to create. This means in effect that every individual entry must be independently notable. A directory of all Copts is not allowed. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:15, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Metropolitan Seraphim of Glastonbury

[edit]

I removed Metropolitan Seraphim of Glastonbury from the list as he is not an ethnic Egyptian Copt. Further, his diocese is no longer in communion with the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate. -Anon

Orphaned references in List of Copts

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of Copts's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "multiple":

  • From Matta El Meskeen: "English Keraza — Pope Shenouda's explanation on why Fr. Matta was not accepted as Pope — see Page 6" (PDF). Retrieved 2012-09-02.
  • From Copts in Libya: Looklex Encyclopedia: 1% of Libya's population (6 million), or 60,000 people in Libya, adhere to the Coptic Orthodox faith
  • From Copts: Tore Kjeilen. "Coptic Church - LookLex Encyclopaedia".

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 03:15, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
