There reads: "It also has a high turnover rate of characters"
I thought that turnover is a business term, meaning how much revenue company has. How is that relevant here? 86.115.107.96 (talk) 15:39, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Former cast[edit]

Hi. I've added the characters Estelle Cooper, Zoe Ramsden and Rory Brears from Series 1 to the former cast section. Does anyone think that Yasmin Deardon, Clarence Charles and Jimmy Grainger should also be added? x

I've added an 'Other' section to the bottom of the 'Former cast' part and added Clarence and Jimmy. Also added Yasmin to the former youth. x

Fuming[edit]

At spoilers. I didn't know Davina was going. Or MATT. He's my favourite teacher (apart from Jasmine but that's only cos she's fit). I'm not a Net geek that has to look at these things and obsess over in which episode they joined and left. So right, I don't want the future of the series to be spoilt for me, as it just has. I was only on here to check a name spelling of a character. Properly fuming. No way of hiding this or at least WARNING us in large letters?! - Nessa Ancalimë ♥ (talk) 20:17, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The nature of the character sections in any tv series, soap, drama etc on wikipedia I think you'll find, is to list Current, Departing, New and Past Characters. It's hardly done to spoil things for fans. There is also a summary box right at the top of the page which clearly states "Upcoming Changes: Arriving, Departing" so if you didn't want to know, she shouldn't have scrolled down.92.11.19.202 (talk) 15:03, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of minor anything are not appropriate on Wikipedia; minor issues are dealt with for completeness on topics which are themselves not minor. A list of Waterloo Road characters is a notable topic, but a separate list of minor Waterloo Road characters is not. As such, List of Minor & Recurring Waterloo Road characters should be merged into this page. The length of that page is not problematic as the bulk of it consists of infoboxes which should simply be removed anyway. Neelix (talk) 20:37, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is an ongoing debate with the Waterloo Road charater pages in general. But seeing as EastEnders, Corrie and other soaps have there own minor character pages, i see no reason why Waterloo Road be any different. But if the List of minor and recurring is to be merged - ALL other pages including those of the main characters should be removed too and simply have the one page. 92.1.230.168 (talk) 21:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • EastEnders does not have any lists devoted explicitly to minor characters. Coronation Street uses the term "minor" in some of its lists, however this term should be removed as the lists are complete lists for an entire year, not just minor characters. Waterloo Road, however, has a list devoted entirely and explicitly to minor characters, and this should be remedied. It is not the case that "ALL other pages including those of the main characters should be removed"; the purpose is not to have only one page, although that is sometimes preferable. The purpose is to have all pages devoted to notable topics; a topic which is explicitly minor does not fit this criterion. Neelix (talk) 12:55, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you will find EastEnders did have minor character articles, until they recently changed them to include all characters from a specific year e.g List of minor characters in EastEnders (2009) is now List of characters in EastEnders (2009), a mixture of all the minor from before and links to all the core characters who joined that year. Maybe we should do the same as they did. 92.1.230.168 (talk) 14:02, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you are willing to create lists of Waterloo Road characters by year of introduction, feel free to do so. This list, however, should not exist and should be merged into the main character list. Neelix (talk) 13:11, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have tagged main characters, such as Kim Campbell, for merging, which I disagree with. Aiken 16:07, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Future/past/present characters - Marcus/Rose/Sam/Emily[edit]

OK, let's discuss this. I would like to assure more regular editors here that I had the best intentions at heart with my edits today. Let's look at each of these characters that I moved to different sections.

Marcus: there is no source for his being in further episodes, and as far as the show's narrative goes he has been explicitly written out; episode 10 of series 6 saw Karen attempting to convince him to stay, episode 11 does not find him back at the school and (crucially) he has been removed from the opening titles. If there is a source for him featuring in a later episode then very well, although if this is the case he should be listed as a future character as it would not be a continuous role.

Rose: There is no source that Rose will be in further episodes. At any rate she cannot be called a current character, as she has only made one brief appearance since series 5.

Sam was very definitely written out of Waterloo Road in episode 6x06. There is no source for her return, or her apparent departure in series 7. She is in no sense a current character.

Emily has not appeared in series 6 so far, and so if and when she does return it will be not be a continuous appearance. She is not a current character.

If there are sources for these returns/departures, let's see them. I gave these assertions the benefit of the doubt by putting Sam and Emily in future characters without sources, though really without proper citation they should be listed as past characters. At any rate, none of these four characters belong in the current characters section. U-Mos (talk) 01:09, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I've done some digging myself. Source for Sam returning in series 6: http://www.waterlooroad.co.uk/characters/sambuca.html Emily from 6x13: http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=10&channelId=92&programmeId=163540945&jspLocation=/jsp/prog_details_fullpage.jsp and Rose in series 7: http://unitedagents.co.uk/elaine-symons#profile-1 No source found for Marcus returning. I will do the courtesy to wait for responses, but I strongly suggesting putting Emily, Rose and Sam as future characters (or create a returning characters section if preferred), and moving Marcus to past characters unless a source can be found. U-Mos (talk) 01:38, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But they’re not "future" characters. That’s the point. Emily is still present in the current series, as is Sam (being absent from a few episodes in a drama is not the same as being absent from a soap opera with weekly continuity.) Albeit, Rose is now recurring, as of Series 6. Marcus is still in the current series, until his departure in episode 20. [I know this for a fact as an episode of North West local news last year went behind the scenes of episode 20 in this series, and he is very much there). You only have to read the newly updated character profiles on the official website to know some of this. The problem its self is not with the creating of a returning characters section, it’s the problem of the durations that are being amended whenever a character "disappears" for a few episodes. It’s ridiculous. Sam Kelly goes of screen for a couple of episodes and suddenly here duration has to be amended to read 4x01-6x06, 6x??-7x??. Going by this, Denzil's should be even worse. Instead of 4x01- it would be more like 4x01, 4x09-5x02, 5x11-6x01, 6x11- and so on. In fact, I make the proposal to restructure the whole article entirely. It's been long overdue that this article should take more of a similar set-up to that of the soap articles. They are much more structured and do not entail both series duration (which to be honest is not needed, as first appearance is listed in the separate character articles) and year of appearance.

If anyone is with me on this we could agree on some fundamentals for the article.

My proposal is:

We list characters in five specific sections: Current, Recurring, Returning, Future and Past.

Current characters – All characters considered “regular” by the source of the Waterloo Road official website. (no fan sites or other, unless approved i.e. waterlooroadTV.co.uk is greatly reliable)

Recurring – All guest characters, including lead guest and one-off guest.

Returning – All characters reappearing after a substantial period of time away, not a few episodes off-screen.

Future – All characters in a regular or recurring role that are upcoming.

Past – All past characters in a regular or recurring role, listed by order of exit, from first to exit to current exit.

ALL amendments must be sourced.

Characters are listed in order of first appearance, instead of alphabetical or by their role within the programme.

Durations by year can be included, but we ditch the series “duration”.

Sources must be correctly maintained, don’t just copy and paste a URL and save.

Once the page has been made appropriate, then we could start to organise the character articles. This is another problem that has been raised many times. Most articles it seems do not have enough references or secondary sources to maintain separate articles, so I propose we categorise the ones that do and can be made better, and list other characters like the EastEnders pages: e.g. List of EastEnders characters (2010) in mini articles. Waterloo Road ED (talk) 17:44, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have no real opinion in restructuring the article or not. That's a source for Marcus being in episode 20 then, but that doesn't erase him having left the programme as of now. A direct comparison would be Jack Rimmer's series 3 departure, and his later appearance that same series as a guest. He is a returning character. My point was Sam has not just vanished for a few weeks, she was written out of the series. However, her case is less definite and so I will not object to her remaining as current cast. Emily, however, I do not agree with. She last appeared in 5x16, and is returning in 6x13. That's 16 episodes off, including an entire "term" and two transmission breaks. There is no way that is a continuous role. I'd compare her case to Vicki MacDonald, for instance. U-Mos (talk) 22:00, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But at the end of the day it's not about how you see it, the point is, in regards to the show, Emily IS a current character, irregardless of how you see it. And, I think you will find Emily actually appeared briefly in 6x01 and a little in 6x10 just before the break. Believe me, she is there ;). Jack Rimmer is completley different. He was written out and came back for a final appearance, similar to Melissa Ryan in Series 4 and Steph Haydock recently, Sam is different. She WASN'T written out at all. She's very much still a regular. As Waterloo Road ED has said, it is not the same. Characters in soaps come and go off and screen, does that mean they have been written out? No it doesn't, it's called taking a break, and Sam as a character is in the same position. The transmission break makes no difference to the Emily situation al all. Its the BBC's decision to split the series in half not the producers of WR, they film a 20 part series in one go. The "term" expression is used for the sale of the DVD in two parts, but in recent series it has caught on as a gimic by the BBC in order to air it in two halves. With regards to Vicki, again very different. Vicki was classed as a guest in Series 5, not a regular, like Emily. It was only during the back-to-back filming of Series 5 & 6 that it was decided Vicki would be brought back as a regular. Asd for Marcus, he's been absent from ONE episode so far! I'm very much with Waterloo Road ED on the re-write of this article, and with the set-up to specific characters. 89.241.3.60 (talk) 22:54, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another point I would like to make is the actually cast itself. Waterloo Road, as a 20-part series has a particularly large cast. With on average 26 core characters and many guest characters, it's not possible to have ALL characters appearing all of the time. Emily played a huge part in Series 5, especially the first half due to the Lindsay storyline. The second half of the series moved onto other storylines, and Emily was phased into the background, but it makes no odds. In Series 6, many new faces were introduced so previous characters took a back seat whilst the new characters were settled into the show, and so viewers could get used to them. Also, just a small point, Shannon Flynn who plays Emily I believe is under 16. She cannot by law, work as many hours as say Linzey Cocker who plays Jess. Waterloo Road ED (talk) 23:03, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"In regards to the show, Emily is a current character"? What are you basing this on? It is totally misleading to list her as appearing throughout series 6, as she doesn't. Many characters do not appear all the time, but Emily has appeared none of the time since series 5. If you are basing it on her having narratively been a pupil at the school for the time she has been absent from the show, that is of no odds. It's not about how you or I see it, but it is about showing accurate information. To pluck an example out of thin air, if Jo Lipsett turned up in next week's episode and the narrative insisted she had remained french teacher off-screen since series 5, would we call it a continuous appearance? Of course we wouldn't. IF Emily did appear as background in 6x01 and 6x10 (which to be honest I do not believe, especially as I recall specifically looking out for her when watching 6x01), then it is a different matter and would take some consideration. And I say again, Marcus has been written out and so it is exactly the same as Steph, Melissa and Jack. He is no longer in the titles; he is no longer a regular. What looks likely to be a brief appearance at the end of the series will be him returning as a guest. Sam was written out in 6x06, but as I said in light of finding the source for her returning soon I now have no objection to her remaining a current character. U-Mos (talk) 00:03, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1) The basis I have is the official website, which is more than you have 2) Emily did appear in 6x01, and 6x10. I suggest you rewatch both before making your "assumptions" 3) The Jo Lipsett example is rubbish as she has actually left and isn't going to be appearing again anytime, so there is no need for the again, "assumptions." Again, nothing you have said is valid for the article, and looking at you past history, it's not the first time you've entered into edit wars, which appeas to be what yoy are trying to do on here. At the end of the day, what you are proposing is not going to happen on here, just for the pure fact and reason that if you did, it would be reverted back again by a number of users. No offence, but your not even getting you facts right in many areas, specifically when it comes to Emily's character and even the Marcus situation. As Waterloo Road ED said Marcus has been absent for one episode so far and suddenly, you wrote him off as having left and unknown to be returning?? And you found THAT evidance where exactly?? - and that proves my point, you didn't. You assumed. Wikipedia isn't about what a poster assumes or thinks in their opinion, it's about fact. It's a fact Emily is a current character, it's a fact Marcus is too, until his exit at the end of the series and it's a fact Sambuca is also. Taking a few episodes off (she was not written out, Holly Kenny took a break in filming just as many actors do) is not justification to being "written out" as you put it. Everyting your doing on here is based on what you think, and before you throw the source and reference line about, again, your doing nothing to back up your assumptions. 89.241.0.14 (talk) 13:54, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

^^^ A little harsh (talk). To be fair there are some valid points in what (talk) is saying. I am currently in the process of changing the layout of the article and as (talk) pointed out with Marcus, he actually doesn't appear in the opening titles anymore (something I didn't actually spot until I re-watched episode 11) so for that I apologise and agree, it does very well look like Marcus isn't core cast this half of the series (however, I do know her does appear, so he hasn't fully left). My proposal is Marcus be listed in a recurring characters section. Emily's is a difficult one. She is a main character by rights but as with the soap character lists, I have noticed a fair number of characters now demoted to recurring from regular dependant on ow often they appear, so in fairness, I am going to agree with the Emily situation now as far as her being recurring. I don't think it's fair to have her classed as written out and returning, because frankly that just isn't true. Sambuca also, with the new layout I'm devising she will appear in the "Returning characters" on second thoughts. Although I stand by what said with her not actually being written out. What is misleading people about this is the way the durations are being changed left, right and center. It's just not needed, so im in proposal of getting rid of them and just have a "first appearance" tab. If agreed, I will post the new version I am mocking up, and then any comments and/or critisism can be made after. Waterloo Road ED (talk) 14:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will take your word for it concerning Emily in 6x01 and 6x10. I am not attempting to start an edit war, in case you haven't noticed I have not reverted back any of my changes while we are discussing and I will not do so if consensus is against me. What I will say is that the issues arose in that, fact or not, things such as Sam not having left when it appeared she had within the series, Marcus/Rose returning, etc. etc., continue to be changed because they are neither sourced or noted with <!-- --> in the article. I also have misgivings about calling people "recurring", as it could potentially turn very subjective. Marcus, for instance, could only be called recurring if he is set to appear in more than one further episode. Do we know this for sure? Emily too is tricky, as it seems to be that she will be as much a part of the show as the other regular pupils from 6x13. U-Mos (talk) 19:33, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well it looks as though you persistant vandals have got your wish - as a view from wikipedia that this article does not deserve to be fully protected as there "is not enough activity" aka they don't give a stuff. And furthmore, I wounldn't be suprised if many of you vandals actually turned out to BE mods.

Why would they go to Ireland then come back? That makes no sense!!!! How do you know they are returning????? Bet you anything they're leaving for good. There's no reason for them to return! That's what happens. Characters serve their purpose and leave!

Redirects to this page[edit]

There are a series of of redirects to this page up for discussion. They all take the forms of names and which are not listed on this page. Presumably these characters in the show. If they are incorrectly missing from this page, it would be good to add them and then keep the redirects. If they don't belong on the page, it would be good to know that. More information, and participation in the RfD would be greatly appreciated. —mako 17:45, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Character profiles[edit]

As Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harry Fisher and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Max Tyler (2nd nomination) show, it has been decided that seperate articles for WR characters are not required and they all now redirect here. However, as mentioned in the former discussion that does not mean no character details can be added. A short amount of information on each major character, ie. just those mentioned in the tables, would be welcome. The page histories of the re-directs may be useful for memory's sake, but I would advise strongly against not copying anything directly from there (bearing in mind WP:INUNIVERSE and WP:OR). Errors that need correcting[edit]

As there are edits that need correcting and the page is procted, I will point them out here:

1) Jasmine Koreshi - Shabana Bakhsh - English Teacher - 3x01-4x20 - 2007-2009 needs adding to the past characters section.

2) In the new characters section, Paige Meade played by Jade Fleming needs to be changed to Jade Fleming played by Paige Meade. Paige is the actress, not the character.

3) Also in the new characters section, Lula TSIBI is the correct spelling of the characters surname, not TSUBI

Thank you for these, and particularly for you and the editor above for noticing that Jasmine had somehow managed to get lost from the past characters list. Thank you, but this source is as unofficial as the current one. It's clearly true, and so can be on the page with an unverified tag as now, but what would really be nice would be some WP:RS confirmation of it. U-Mos (talk) 11:56, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think we should still have her as 7xwhatever - present and take on a style similar to Eastenders, just because they may be absent for a episode or two doesn't mean they have left, which saying 2011, 20??- makes it sound like. Jodi 'Scout' Allen's name[edit]

Why is the characters name spelt "Jodie" on here when both the Waterloo Road website and the BBC website spell it Jodi? Just wondering AscotLEE (talk) 16:22, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She was originally "Jodi" in series 7a per sources/subtitles etc., but this spelling never appeared on-screen (she was initially only credited as "Scout") and for whatever reason was changed in 7b to "Jodie 'Scout' Allen". U-Mos (talk) 12:55, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 10 April 2013[edit]

Please change the Exit Dates for Tom Clarkson, Michael Byrne and Lorraine Donnegan from 9x?? To 8x?? Because the actors have already filmed their final scenes and will not be appearing in series 9. Please view the source currently used next to each characters name as proof 2.49.61.30 (talk) 15:43, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: Changed to ?x?? in all cases - read the source carefully; all we know is they have all finished filming as of today. Series 9 started filming on the first of this month, so there is nothing to rule out their appearance early in series 9 as yet. All we know is they will leave in episodes broadcast at some point in 2013. U-Mos (talk) 16:06, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just to mention, Jason, Alec and Daniela are not featuring at all in the ninth series, currently being filmed (as of 1 April). They all filmed their final scenes earlier in the year prior to the seven week filming break, as part of the final episodes to Series 8. The DS article that refers to them featuring in the "next series" to be correct is actually referring to the next block of 10 episodes, which is Series 8 Summer Term. Just thought I'd mention that. AscotLEE (talk) 00:19, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that to be the case too, but I have not seen any source that confirms it. Do you have one? U-Mos (talk) 13:09, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly not one than can be verified fully, so until there is one I'm all for keeping it as it is now, the same as you. With regard to new character "Lenny Brown", I believe the actor playing him is Joe Slater. His twitter account confirms this, but I'm unsure how reliable twitter is as a source on Wiki: https://twitter.com/MrJoeSlater. I also believe Mark Beswick is playing a character called "Darren Hughes" in Series 9 too: https://twitter.com/markabeswick, again twitter so not sure how validated it is as a source. AscotLEE (talk) 14:12, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If there are direct tweets from the person concerned, they can be used along with a {{verify source}} tag as a temporary measure. I am going to do that for Liberty and Jack's departures now, but can't see a specific tweet for the two you mention above (bios are transient) so have left them for now. (Also, do you happen to know if Jade is in the last part of series 8? I always thought she was leaving at the same time as Scout, but clearly if that was the case she didn't get an exit story.) Ok thats fair. Yes, it seems to be that both Jack and Liberty will leave sometime in the next block of series 8 too. As far as I am aware, Paige Meade (Jade) did leave in the last block (episode 20 I think, same as Scout as you mentioned). She tweeted about her exit just after episode 20 aired. Also, Richard Mylan tweeted back in February (4 Feb to be exact) he has joined as "Simon Lowsley" and later confirms his first appearance in episode 29 of Series 8, and he's also now filming Series 9 too: https://twitter.com/RichardMylan and former Corrie actress Elizabeth Tan (Xin) is set to appear in Series 8 summer term and Series 9 as "Princess (Windsor?)" apparently, the wife of newcomer George (Angus Deayton) https://twitter.com/ElizabethTan8. Also, Jody Latham needs adding to the future characters as "Shane-O Malone" the ex boyfriend of Dynasty, who will appear in Series 8 Summer term too http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s24/waterloo-road/news/a455321/waterloo-road-role-for-eastenders-shameless-star-jody-latham.html :) haha there seem to be loads. If its OK, I leave it with you to determine what to add and not to add as you seem better suited at verifying and I don't want to mess the article up lol AscotLEE (talk) 14:57, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. I couldn't find anything linking Elizabeth Tan's character to Angus Deayton's, but other than that it's all in. Completely forgot about Jody Latham joining... U-Mos (talk) 15:40, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It says on www.waterlooroadtv.com that Tom,Michael,Lorraine and Jack will be appearing in the next block of episodes but not in Series 9 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.49.61.30 (talk) 17:48, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Chalk and Kacey "Robbie" Barry[edit]

Hey just wanted to point out that Kevin's surname is now officially Chalk as mentioned onscreen and in the title credits.

Also should Kacey be Kacey "Robbie" Barry as it is been made clear onscreen that he is now called Robbie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.236.10 (talk) 20:26, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

current characters[edit]

Shouldn't characters who are departing still be listed in the 'current' table as they are? And shouldn't we have three sections: Current, past and cast changes where departing, returning and future characters are listed. Would make it more organised?Arsenalfan24 (talk) 22:49, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: This is not needed and here's the reason why: 'Departing characters' is a sub-heading within 'Current characters'. This means that the character is current, yet departing too.

New biog pages[edit]

I have started off a new series of character pages, designed to include some biographical information, at List of Waterloo Road characters (series 1). It's a big task, so I've uploaded the article in an unfinished state to hopefully get some help from other users. The style should be pretty clear I think, simple infoboxes and basic biographies (Jack and Tom's will be longer than the average I think, as Jack's time was very plot-heavy and Tom was in the show for ages!) with as much sourcing of actor interviews/reasons for departure as available. Hopefully these will be as good as the old individual pages were atrocious. All help appreciated!

(Also, to clarify: I have designated "Main cast" as those who feature in the opening title sequence, "Supporting cast" to be other regulars (e.g. pupils) and "Guest cast" to be any others. Use discretion with supporting/guest, discussion can happen where necessary.) U-Mos (talk) 15:52, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Current WP:BOLD restructuring[edit]

Just a quick note regarding the current edits, whose main priority is to follow MOS:TVCAST and amend the illogical prominence of the 'final cast'. With some further need for correction, the intention is to streamline into a 'main cast' list (in this case, all the staff members who appear in the opening titles over the years), and recurring lists - which I think here can be separated into 'pupils' and 'others'. The attempts to structure further on the basis of the in-narrative school structure led to several nonsensical states of affairs, e.g. the head teachers not appearing in the main cast list, the character of Nikki Boston listed alongside the series' headline characters for being head for a single episode, pupil-turned-secretary Janeece appearing in multiple lists, etc. It is possible, however, that we could produce a table for the school's management team over the years which would highlight the lead characters at the top of the page - i.e. Head, Deputy Head and Head of Pastoral Care, becoming Head and two deputy heads in later series. Any comments and thoughts welcome. U-Mos (talk) 00:55, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Further note for the future: a third colour distinction is required on all the grids, for recurring characters. No pupils should be listed in green because they are never part of the main cast, per the opening titles (I suggest happily ignoring the odd shot of a few of the kids in s10's final title sequence), so should be recurring (red is the usual colour for this). Guest (usually blue) are those who appear in just one episode of the sub-series. U-Mos (talk) 01:17, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And all series grids should be moved to the right-most column... U-Mos (talk) 01:27, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I like the restructuring that you're doing. My only comments would be why are some occupations considered non-important (like Christine and Tom being Head of English) and that I think the student characters are also regulars, some featuring more than some teachers, so I wouldn't stick them in the recurring section. Thanks for committing to this restructure too. I'm currently developing a draft for Waterloo Road characters with more detail about each character (similar to Characters of Holby City) too. +1 - It looks a hell of a lot better than what it did most certainly!, FWIW I've always wanted to do something with this but just never got round to it, Anyway excellent work U-Mos many thanks for taking this on, Also sorry for reverting you the other day - I hadn't realised it was a work in progress otherwise I wouldn't of touched it,
Anyway thanks again, –Davey2010Talk 19:17, 20 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comments! Now to wade through the pupils list... To answer your queries Soaper1234: on the heads of subjects, my feeling was as a narrative function it's never particularly important in the show, especially as most departments only have one named character teaching at any one time. To list them all separately seemed rather fancrufty, and while characters such as Matt Wilding are always "Head of Music and Drama" etc. and can be listed as such, when Tom Clarkson and Christine Mulgrew have headships and deputy headships to list it seems superfluous. It's not a perfect science, but I tried to consider what their primary narrative role is, only adding additional positions if it was a significant shift in that (for instance, Nikki's one-episode stint as acting head teacher does not warrant inclusion, and nor does her brief dalliance into a PE lesson, but her appointments as Head of PRU and Deputy Head do). Head of Pastoral Care, a very significant narrative role in the earlier series, was conversely missing from the lengthy lists before, so I've addressed that in the new Senior Leadership Team grid - which is essentially a list of the show's foremost characters over the years.
As for the pupils, "regular" is always a difficult term - they certainly are in many cases, but they're not main cast as shown by the opening titles. Possibly "supporting cast" instead of "recurring cast" may be a better fit? Possible to use {{cAlso Starring}} in the grids, but without a clear distinction from the episodes it'll be hard to know where to draw the line: you and I may know that Chlo Grainger is more significant than Leigh-Ann Galloway, but how could that be consistently verified across the board? U-Mos (talk) 07:51, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@U-Mos: Thank you for explaining that. The roles makes sense and I would support the students being supporting cast if they can't be considered main cast, although you make a valid point about Chloe and Leigh-Ann. I would suggest that you have main cast (staff), supporting cast (regular students such as Donte, Chloe, Josh, Sambuca, Barry etc.), recurring cast (other non-leading students and staff, such as Grantly in seasons 1 and 2, and Leigh-Ann etc.), and guest cast (relatives, former cast returning such as Carol before she series 9 or Andrew in his series 4 return). Soaper1234 - talk 18:46, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Soaper1234: I'm still reluctant to distinguish between pupils on anything other than the number of episodes they appear in, it's too subjective. How about this: main cast is anyone in the opening titles, supporting cast anyone else with a role in the school over multiple episodes in a sub-series, split into pupils and staff (e.g. Candice Smilie, Estelle the secretary), and recurring cast is anyone else appearing in more than one episode of a sub-series (Roger Aspinall, Michael's dad, Richard Whitman etc.). U-Mos (talk) 04:33, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@U-Mos: I'm happy to agree with that. Soaper1234 - talk 21:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
