Talk:List of films featuring insects
This page was proposed for deletion by Erik (talk · contribs) on 23 December 2012 with the comment: Not a notable topic for a stand-alone list. Not likely to be expanded beyond current items either. May be better to place "See also" sections at each film article listing the three other items. It was contested by DGG (talk · contribs) on 26 December 2012 with the comment: no reason to think this is unexpandable, considering its an alphabetical list that has just gotten to "B" |

Converting topic
[edit]Would anyone mind if I converted this topic to List of films featuring insects? I think that this is a broad enough topic to include both anthropomorphic examples and otherwise (such as horror films). We can have a "Description" column that summarizes how insects are featured in the film. Erik (talk | contribs) 15:36, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm fine with this, but I suggest you have some kind of criteria, else any film with bugs being splattered would be in the list! Lukeno94 (talk) 16:43, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Definitely! I've put together List of films featuring diabetes, List of films featuring home invasions, and List of films featuring surveillance and have referenced everything I added. Will do the same here. Erik (talk | contribs) 16:48, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm going to reserve judgment on whether morphing this will fly or whether it will be too broad. Clarityfiend (talk) 03:12, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think it will be much more palatable than a list for anthropomorphic characters, which will include a vast majority of animated films. We can use Category:Films about insects as a jumping-off point and expand beyond that too. Erik (talk | contribs) 16:12, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

List of films featuring insects → List of films featuring anthropomorphic insectsList of films featuring anthropomorphic insects – This article is only about notable films with an anthropomorphic insect as the main character or anthropomorphic insects as main characters. As such it has restrictive selection criteria. In 2013, after the first Afd, broading the topic to films about insects was discussed here at Converting topic above, but no action was taken. In the second AfD broadening the topic was again discussed. Subsequently on 28 October 2015, Yash! moved the page from List of films featuring anthropomorphic insects to List of films featuring insects. However no change in the article was made. Based on the second AfD I added citations so that the article visually met the requirements of WP:Stand alone lists. The broader category is already covered at Category:Films about insects, broadening this list would produce a more indiscriminate list. This article works quite well as is, and would work better with a more accurate title. If someone is interested in the other two types of insect films, namely horror and documentary (See the current lead to this article.), then appropriate separate lists could be constructed using appropriately narrow selection criteria. If the consensus of editors is to jam all three types of insect films together, then the title could be changed when that is done. Even then, I believe that it would be appropriate to have three sections in the article, the existing one, and one each for the other two types of films. -- Bejnar (talk) 19:25, 27 December 2015 (UTC) Relisted. - Comment - I had moved the article as per the comments made here. Thanks, Yash! 03:00, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose because "anthropomorphic insects" does not appear to meet WP:NOTESAL, where "insects" does. Just add other films featuring insects to fit the scope. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 04:16, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Erik: How about changing it to List of animated insect films? Since that title does meet WP:NOTESAL, see, e.g., Berenbaum pp. 757–758, and although that would include The Adventures of André and Wally B., that is much better than junking them all together. That would also give us Ladislaw Starewicz's work, including The Ant and the Grasshopper (1911). --Bejnar (talk) 20:19, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think it is junking them all together... we're talking about movies showing insects. It is not a huge list in the first place. We can add columns to the table to sort movies by category, such as "Animated". Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 20:33, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- So you don't think that the horror movies are sufficiently distinct from the science documentaries? --Bejnar (talk)
- I don't think that lists of films featuring insects are so prevalent as to warrant spinning off into smaller lists. Seems better to start with the main list first. I've listed both documentaries and fictional works in the same place before. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 04:46, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- I still disagree. When one eschews commonality and keys instead off of a single word that is when one gets indiscriminate lists. --Bejnar (talk) 07:03, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

List of films featuring insects → List of films featuring anthropomorphic insects – The current title is misleading. The proposed title reflects the actual topic as stated in the lead of the article. Also per the previous nomination above - however my main point is that the current title is misleading, regardless of what anyone thinks the article should or shouldn't contain, the current title should reflect the current content. The current content specifically excludes films featuring actual real insects. Pontificalibus 12:08, 11 February 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 21:25, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Seems reasonable to me, and I'll ignore the fact that there's a spider on the list! :) The list is what it is, I don't agree that changing the scope to make it fit the title is somehow a better option. PC78 (talk) 17:09, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Much better criteria. So these insects are actually named characters, not your run-of-the-mill housefly. Dimadick (talk) 20:00, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose and expand the article, "Anthropomorphic insects" can become a section heading, then add the documentaries, the 1950s large-insect horror genre, and other films in other sections and a useful full list forms. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:50, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Similar suggestions were made in the above discussion (and the AfD) three years ago, but no one seems to want to do the required work. Meanwhile, we have an article that doesn't match its title because that's not how it was originally conceived or written. That's not helpful. PC78 (talk) 01:33, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- I can do some but not all of it, and this would entail merging List of insect documentaries and the 1950s and other big bug films (the era newspaper ads on those are quite interesting). The title is waiting for that kind of expansion, so if some of us put in a few minutes formatting and adding to the page at some point soon (Wikipedia has no time limit) it should do the job. Randy Kryn (talk) 01:39, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- The deadline is now for removing inaccuracies. The title has been waiting for six years since it was first proposed to add films featuring insects to this article. That's six years in which readers have sought out this page only to find that none of the films on the list feature actual insects, but only anthropomorphic insects. I wonder how much of our readers' time has been wasted in total. Three years ago it was proposed to fix the title, but someone threw a spanner in the works and yet did nothing, and so here we are still with the problem not fixed. I can only conclude that no one is particularly interested in having a page listing films featuring insects, so we need to restore the orginal name to accurately reflect the content.--Pontificalibus 15:22, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
- Putting that together seems fairly easy, but would require the duplication or merging of the documentary page. Would you be okay with that result? I don't have a hissing cockroach in the game either way. Thanks for the catch-up on the page's history, and the link to the deadline is now page (never saw that one before). - Weak Oppose I think the current title is fine. So is Randy Kryn's idea. The proposed title seems unnecessary. It's a list article. This title is a highly unlikely search term anyway. Most will discover it through serendipity. That's fine. So is the title. --В²C ☎ 18:02, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
