Make a comparison page?[edit]

Might be a nice to start a new page to compare things like altitude, vertical, lifts, average yearly base, terrain size, runs, stats, etc.

That can be done here easy enough with the time/data to create it; if you want to do it yourself, copy over the table templates from pages like List of Indian Reserves in Canada, or List of ships in British Columbia, and adjust the field-headings and input the data, and voila there you have it (sortable, too).Skookum1 (talk) 23:42, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't delete...[edit]

I just added quite a few that I knew about, and fixed titles on others; looking around, and knowing there were more, I found Ecosign Ltd's listing of places it's worked on the design of (not all ski resorts, though); some were never built like Cayoosh or Powder Mountain ubt here's the list for ref/googling purposes, with non-ski area items removed, though unbuilt ones remain:

Slivertip I remember - but is or isn't it the same as Manning Park? Or were there two lfit companies there? Hmm. Yelohed and various others I think area only designs/intentions/projects-in-the-make like Jumbo. Tumbler Ridge I'd heard of but haven't found a webpage for it yet. Forbidden Plateau I know is a x-country area, sounds like someone wants to put up some lifts or has. Paradise Valley maybe is Squamish, as also Brohm Ridge (both unbuilt); Cypress Bowl Ski Area is currently merged into Cypress Mountain and like Grouse and Seymour and Burke prob. shouldn't be; Burke I haven't added to {{Ski areas and resorts in British Columbia}} as I'm not sure it's in operation, or anything more than a private club with its own tow, like other community-org operated hills; not sure. Re x-country areas, isn't the Tetrahedron Provicial Park such an area, and what's that small range NW from Sechelt? Also I think Elkford has t-bars or rope-tows....Skookum1 (talk) 02:55, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

alt/old names[edit]

Just wondering if the old names or alternate names for some of htese shouldn't be included; likewise their locations; some are misleading - "Kicking Horse" is on the opposite side of Golden from the Kicking Horse River/Pass, and used to be Whitetooth Ski Area; Fernie was Snow Valley, Sun Peaks was Tod, and so on. The town-lcation thing may b e more important; but given Silvertip/Manning Park (also called Allison Pass, unles again ther'es two hills there...) I think alt/old names are important in cases where it's an issue of notability/recognizability; rather than just stikcing with corporate branding-names....Skookum1 (talk) 19:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC) Paradise Valley is not a ski hill but a snowmobile club in Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek has a ski hill called Bear Mountain ran by the non-profit group Dawson Creek Ski and rec. Assoc. Diamond Head?[edit]

Diamond Head's lift or gondola towers were for a while still visible from the Brohm Ridge stretch of Hwy 99; I'm not sure they were ever finished and in operation, but wasn't the daylodge and some rope tows up there in operation for a while? And weren't there tows, at least, somewhere near Garibaldi? (.e. Garibaldi townsite). The same location was re-proposed as the Brohm Ridge development, but I think climatic-change concerns derailed it (more rain than snow in recent decades....). Just checking as to whetehr or not Diamond Head is a "closed" ski area, or if it should like Brohm Ridge be listed as a "proposed" ski area; others are not listed above - Bralorne/Sunshine notably I think also proposals have kicked around for Railroad Pass and the Douglas Band wants ot build one near Port Douglas, I think on Fire Mountain but I'm not sure exactly, only heard mumbles; and someone talked about buildilng one up in the Coquihalla area somewhere.....minor "club" type hills like th old Bralorne club, Mission Mountain/Pass (above shalalth/Seton) and Burke Mtn can all be discounted as they were never commercial proposals/operations SFAIK (other than Bralorne, sort of, though Burke almost became a community hill....) and one of the mines near Hope was also talked about at some point, long ago....(snow conditions ahve changed, I think that's also what killed expansion plans for Silvertip that would have kept it alive...). This is just all "corners of the mind" memories; the biggie is Powder Mountain and it may yet resurface....Skookum1 (talk) 02:01, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diamond Head is now a back-country area inside Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is not accessible by car. People do ski on Brohm ridge - albeit by traversing up -on foot- from the Diamond Head park parking lots. The hike takes 1 1/2 to 2.5 hours and the skiing is done along the ridge. People just ski down, then walk up - repeat cycle. There is no avalanche control or staff that manage the area.
