Verification failures

[edit]

As is a chronic problem with these lists, many entries fail WP:V.

Sources must clearly ascribe events to "violent non-state actors for political, religious, or ideological motives" like ISIL or directly call the event terrorism. EvergreenFir (talk) 22:09, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging NeilN since it looks like this is gonna be an issue again. EvergreenFir (talk) 01:12, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EvergreenFir: Added an edit notice. --NeilN talk to me 15:30, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: thank you EvergreenFir (talk) 18:07, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: A Barcelona user (IP changes often) persistently adds OR materials like in this edit. I've noticed this in previous pages. I might be requesting a semi-protection again soon. Any other suggestions about how to handle this user? I can provide more diffs if needed. EvergreenFir (talk) 00:16, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EvergreenFir: Is there an IP range a can look at? --NeilN talk to me 14:03, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@NeilN: Not one that I can identify. Here are some example IPs from Barcelona or Spain that are editing on terrorism pages though. Note, not all edits are issues, but enough are:

There are two common enough ranges, but I'd have to dig to see if this looks like the same person or not. EvergreenFir (talk) 22:07, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@EvergreenFir: Okay, 88.10.160.0/21 has gotten enough warnings - not our fault if they have a dynamic IP and may not see them. Blocked a month as their edits stretch back to last August. --NeilN talk to me 22:21, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: three 176.83 range has been adding improperly sourced stuff again. But collateral damage seems too high for a range block imho (contribs since new year). Are you willing to semi the page? EvergreenFir (talk) 00:01, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Semied two weeks. --NeilN talk to me 04:32, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Idlib

[edit]

@Koranion: the source for the Idlib attack ([1]) doesn't mention terrorism and says no group claimed responsibility. Can you please provide a source that calls it terrorism? EvergreenFir (talk) 18:14, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No response and no updated sources. Entry removed. EvergreenFir (talk) 21:46, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the added source here, Koranion EvergreenFir (talk) 19:30, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ukraine

[edit]

Based on this discussion, I removed the item related to War in Donbass and will only keep here those which are defined as terrorist attacks by independent neutral sources.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:58, 17 January 2018 (UTC)7[reply]

This list has the broadest definition of terrorism anywhere

[edit]

Seemingly any acts of violence by non state actors and no acts of violence by state actors are included in this list of terrorism. Even back when George W Bush tried to label all his enemies terrorists to get support for the War on Terror there was more balance in the discourse. Here for example are several instances of attacks against military and police targets, while again no state actors are included. Why?

The criterion for inclusion is that there are reliable independent neutral sources which call the incident terrorism-related. If there are some which do not conform to this definition, feel free to remove.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:58, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
While I am opposing this on general principle in that there should be a scholarly definition established for what is to be included under these terms regardless of what some journalist or government official may write in a piece for pity or views the fact of the matter is even worse. Most of the sources listed for attacks against police and military targets do not include the word terror in them. I question the motives of who ever is including these attacks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.89.15.72 (talk) 19:58, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
