Problems[edit]

I came to post about the same thing. I owned this mouse and it was horrible. It would disconnect at random and make your life miserable. I'm pretty sure that's the reason it's discontinued. --94.69.48.214 (talk) 07:54, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too Many Pics?[edit]

Replacements[edit]

Looks like there isn't one. The revolution MX does not look like its a gaming mouse. My RMA'd G7 is being replaced by a G9. It not cordless though. It Looks uglier, but hopefully it won't have the 'cutting out' and the 'double-click' problems. 124.168.194.34 (talk) 08:01, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seems surprising that Logitech would stop producing cordless gaming grade mice when their main competitor (Microsoft) has just recently released the wireless Sidewinder X8 (were it not for the hideous side scrolling/difficult-to-press wheel, the latter would have been an absolute winner of a mouse). 79.107.231.60 (talk) 21:47, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opinions of a Hard-Core G7 User[edit]

I spent over 5 months researching mice in order to purchase the perfect mouse, and on paper the G7 was THE mouse to get. Here's why:

2000 dpi (more than enough precision) Laser, not optical (optical will not work on shiny surfaces) cordless, with PHENOMINAL range. (I can move the mouse on the computer in the bedroom from the laundry room, about 40 feet and through 3 walls.) Great hand-feel (particularly texture), well balanced and just the right amount of friction when moving it. Rechargeable battery system, and no docking station. You have one battery on the charge, and one in the mouse. When the current batter goes dead, you swap the batteries and you are back in business. The absence of a docking station is critical because mice that have them cannot be used while they are on the dock charging. You can use this mouse 24/7, with only a pause to swap batteries to interupt.

Here's the fatal flaw:

They're junk. Electronic junk that are built with a known defect somewhere in the engineering, and Logitech never bothered to fix it. What happens is, after a period of 2 days to 6 months, the mouse would "hang" for a period of 1/2 second to 10 seconds (or even longer), and it would happen from once a day to once every 3 minutes.

Logitech was (and is) fully aware of the problem. It's been documented widely as the "G7 freeze" problem. They'll honor a factory warranty with proof-of-purchase (I have 3 of them now), but the replacements they ship are also defective. And Logitech has failed completely in explaining exactly what this defect is.

All this mumbo-jumbo about marketing to "hard-core gamers" is pure bunk. These design qualities, this mouse (as it was SUPPOSED to be) would be the perfect mouse for anyone. It has enough (but not too many) of the extra buttons, it's light and won't tire your hand, comfortable, attractive, economical and the only problem is that it just doesn't work, which is deeply disappointing.

I'm providing this "input" (knowing none of this is publishable in the actual wiki, it's almost all just my opinion) on the chance that someone that CAN add to or modify the wiki can at least understand that this is not just a gaming mouse, it should have been the perfect mouse for everyone, and maybe insert into the wiki some sense of what the G7's existance was (and is) to the mouse-using public. It's loss is not a minor loss to the very small gaming community, it's loss is profound to everyone because no other manufacturer has (in my year of research) been able to create a mouse that has the same qualities (see the list at the top of the page).

Many mice have MOST of them, but no mouse has ALL of them.

My opinion, Logitech was stupid on several levels. Had they built the thing right to begin with, they could still be selling them instead of those stupid, ugly and functionless "boxes" they are marketing to the idiots that do not know what a mouse is supposed to be and do for you. Since they failed to build it right, fix it once the defect was known, lost money on replacing the defective ones, stupidly designed and started selling this new generation of ugly and functionless mice and then phased out the G7 completely.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

So my point is that there is a VOID in the industry that was poorly filled by the G7 and that point is the most significant point of the G7's existance. It's the mouse that should have been, but due to Logitechs stupidity, it isn't and will not be. Someone else needs to do it; some other company that is not stupid like Logitech. It's my hope that this idea will make it into the wiki, and someone will understand a mouse like the G7 needs to be made by someone and hopefully they can do it for the benefit of everyone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonny Quick (talk • contribs) 06:47, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The g7 was perfect in every way, except for the design flaws/problems. I was mortified when I discovered they had discontinued it, I would have happily continued replacing them when they broke, furthermore Logitech were just as happy to send me free ones. If instead of discontinuing the g7, they re-released it as the g7.1 sans self destructing electronics I have no doubt it would be considered the best gaming mouse in existence. 93.96.39.98 (talk) 16:06, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
