[edit]No corroborative evidence has been found for the statement that survivors were fired on in the water. Against this it must be said that Fleet Air Arm pilots were trained to make their attack and escape as quickly as possible. It seems highly unlikely that any of the attacking aircraft, who were themselves under fire, would have stayed around to attack targets of minimal military value, quite apart from any ethical implications.
