The first two sentences are in direct contradiction to each other.

Proposed merge of List of wineries and vineyards in Maine into Maine wine
[edit]Wikipedia is not a WP:DIRECTORY of non-notable local businesses. Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of wineries in Ohio this is better merged to the main article with only notable locations. Reywas92Talk 17:44, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Correct problems, don't merge
[edit]The problem is not that these lists should not exist, but rather than they should not link to the winery websites and should instead have third-party references. Take List of wineries in New Mexico as an example. Every winery without an article has a citation to a newspaper review of a wine or the winery. This is sufficient to establish notability in a list, they don't have to be notable enough for a standalone article to be included in the list. This was established in the AfD discussion for that list.
Note, I personally don't like the table format for this, in a strange way it actually encourages expansion. Better to break the list into recognized subregions within the state. Skyerise (talk) 17:41, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- The notable topic is Maine wine, and significant wineries should be discussed there. Wikipedia does not need to list the names of non-notable local businesses even if they're listed in a guide or directory of wineries in the region. Reywas92Talk 23:22, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- That's your opinion, but a sourced list article is a completely acceptable thing on Wikipedia and your opinion is not necessarily shared by other editors. Skyerise (talk) 23:24, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- After reviewing the literature, the notable categorization that is written about by sources would indicate creating List of wineries in New England and including NH, VT, MA and RI wines in the list. Skyerise (talk) 16:08, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
Alternate proposal: redirect List of wineries and vineyards in Maine to List of wineries in New England
[edit]As wineries of New England is a category which is covered by sources, I propose redirect the list for Maine to List of wineries in New England. Skyerise (talk) 18:44, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- How about New England wine, and merge this list as well as the individual state pages into it? I don't think there needs to be a Maine wine article on its own in the first place. Back in 2007 someone bulk-produced stubs for all the states, even though combined these six states make less than half a percent of the country's wine. That would be a good place to merge pages like Western Connecticut Highlands AVA, so these can be comprehensively discussed in one place. Reywas92Talk 21:38, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- The wineries themselves are notable, both in winemaking and in tourism. There is no reason to merge. Skyerise (talk) 21:46, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- So list them in the main article, there's no reason to be starting new pages and split the content forcing reading to go to an additional page. Reywas92Talk 22:12, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- List articles serve a purpose. I'm sorry you don't get that. But you're the one trying to change the status quo, not me. The status quo stays until there is a consensus in your favor. That's it! Skyerise (talk) 22:16, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
