I hear TV sports announcers pronounce it like Mar-KEES pronounced/ˈmɑrkɨs/, but the French pronunciation would require a silent 'S'. A marquis (pronounced/mɑrˈkiː/) (from French "marquis") is a nobleman of hereditary rank in various European monarchies.
