Collection
[edit]This article needs information on the collection; I was unable to find anything useful online beyond the institution's own website and mentions of one painting being assessed a value of $2 million. Does anyone else have access to appropriate sources? Yngvadottir (talk) 17:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Suggested updates
[edit]1. “...associated with the Remai Arts Centre...” is misleading. The new gallery is adjacent to the Remai Arts Centre, which houses the Persephone Theatre.
2. Remai Modern name and brand announcement March 2014 [1]
3. Projected opening date mid-2016 [2]
4. The source for the following is no longer available, and a date should be included with the statement: “The decision to close the Mendel Gallery and replace it, which superseded earlier plans for expansion, has been controversial, with a former mayor asking for a plebiscite in 2012.” Here is a different source for that info. [3]
5. The project is supported by three levels of government: the City of Saskatoon, the Government of Saskatchewan, and the Government of Canada [4]
6. Children’s Discovery Museum expected to open in 2017 [5]

- Thank you; if no one else does, I'll look at these and update/tweak the article shortly. Yngvadottir (talk) 16:45, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- OK, I looked through the sources and I've made all the changes and additions except for 1 (it does not seem misleading to say it's associated with the other, adjacent Remai-named arts facility) and 5 (we state the Remai Foundation is the major donor, leaving it understood that other financial sources are being drawn on; I don't see the necessity for breaking this down further). I've taken the liberty of changing the last number to 6. I've created a redirect at Remai Modern and bolded the name in the article; if the name changes again or if it's thought better to use the whole mouthful of a name, this can be moved or a second redirect added, and if someone later decides it's better to have a new article on the new gallery, the redirect can be expanded into that. How does it look now? Yngvadottir (talk) 02:03, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm currently an employee of the Mendel Art Gallery, so I do not want to do the edits myself and appreciate your help keeping this page up to date. I have been talking to a Wiki editor about starting a page for Remai Modern, so when that's up we can make the link. Jmc881 (talk) 19:41, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- You're welcome; I thought that might be it, and that redirect can easily be axpanded into a new article, although I think it would be better to do so after it opens. Yngvadottir (talk) 22:09, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- I'm the editor that Jmc881 has been talking to both on and off-wiki. I think these are good changes so far. There's a bit of work to do still, more to correct what I see as a bit of citation overkill. I started by making the first instance of the named references the full citation, and subsequent ones the shorthand. Next I will try to remove unneeded repetitions of the same reference.
- I'm also still not sure about the "Mission" section. I know it's been in there for a while, but it's uncited and doesn't impart any really useful information. See "Avoid mission statements". --Drm310 (talk) 19:41, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
- I had had the same thought about the Mission statement more than once, so I just zapped it. I thought the comma in the new full name was in the source, but no matter, the newspaper may have got it wrong, or I may have. Thanks for linking the former mayor's name - I didn't think to look for an article. I do wonder, though, whether it's germane here to mention his re-election campaign, let alone its being short-lived? Yngvadottir (talk) 16:41, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
