Bio in her own words is a copyvio[edit]

Recently, a large (almost 8kB) block of text was added which is a copyright violation of http://www.minettewalters.co.uk/about_minette/biography.htm. Accordingly, it has been summarily deleted.

The source page reads "© Minette Walters 2007. All Rights Reserved." In the absence of a release from the site's creator—and verified as having come from there—this text cannot be used in the article.

Please discuss the issue further here before attempting to re-add the text to the article. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 01:17, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should also be mentioned that even if a release from Minette Walters were obtained, the material would still be unsuitable and would certainly be deleted. This is an encyclopedia, and material written in the first person (other than brief direct quotations to support particular points) is not appropriate in such a work. In addition, WP:AUTO strongly discourages contributions authored by articles' subjects. If a more detailed biography of Ms. Walters is needed, it will have to be written in the words of the contributing editor(s), not in Ms. Walters's words. Deor 22:50, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Number of years since MW last published a novel[edit]

There is no need to state that Walters has not written a book in "x" number of years. First, it is obvious from the info in the article (and other places on the web) that she hasn't published a new work. Next, people have lives - other people have stopped writing, composing, acting etc. etc. If there is a specific reason for this - like "I just couldn't touch another keyboard" or "I've decided to live off my royalties" then that might be notable but a WP:RS would be needed for WP:V. Other policies involved include the time sensitive nature of an edit like the one in question. Is someone expected to watch the calendar and come back every year to update the entry? As things stand (and IMO) the number of years since Walters last published a novel is not relevant to her WikiP article. MarnetteD|Talk 05:27, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The other problem with adding information such as this is that it constantly has to be updated to remain accurate, which editors rarely bother to do. And then, should she publish, it has to be removed. We can figure out from the current date and publication date of her last book if we're that interested, and it saves the article a problem. --Drmargi (talk) 21:10, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's completely inappropriate text for the reasons mentioned above.--KeithbobTalk 17:37, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
