Destruction 1945
[edit]The impression given in this Wikepedia article that the destruction at Moyland in 1945 took place entirely AFTER the Allies had occupied the area in 1945, and after the castle was used as a HQ by Montgomery from 25 February, does not agree with the account given by RW Thompson in his book 'Men Under Fire' (London, Macdonald and Co, 1945/6?), pp 69-72, who arrived there on 22 February in the immediate wake of the fighting troops. He makes clear that destruction had already been extensive, with floors collapsed and piles of rubble in many rooms (while others were relatively untouched) as the result of rocket strikes from aircraft and artillery bombardment. This had happened during extensive fighting in the area. No doubt there was looting and wanton vandalism also (alluded to also by Thompson - who says that the Allied troops who first reached the castle were French Canadians). But the article should take account of this. 81.152.50.189 (talk) 11:02, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
