Murder victim material

Maybe wait to see if the article survives AFD before deciding in here if it should be included in this article. --Malerooster (talk) 03:23, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

What is it you want changed? You haven't provided a description of your request, just your signature. - Cheers, KoolKidz112 (hit me up) 14:45, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:52, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Referral to Commons Standards Committee

Neil Parish cannot technically refer himself to the Commons standards committee. Complaints submitted through the standards process go to the parliamentary commissioner for standards, Kathryn Stone, first. She in effect triages them, deciding what merits investigation and what does not. If a complaint is valid, she investigates and produces a report, which then goes to the standards committee (MPs and lay members) who take the final decision about what punishment to recommend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cm1914 (talkcontribs) 15:57, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Independent status

He is listed as independent after numerous edits by alextheconservative however he is not independent; being suspended is not the same as being expelled. The same user made similar edits (now reverted) to the article for David Warburton earlier this month when he was also suspended. Listing him as independent is misleading. 185.85.187.135 (talk) 15:15, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

I suggest we treat this in the same way that the Claudia Webbe article is treated. As he has had the Conservative whip withdrawn, he is technically an independent, albeit one (currently) in cabinet. Mjroots (talk) 15:27, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Firstly, I did not list him as independent in the first place; I merely added the template at the bottom to reflect the infobox. Secondly, as he has been suspended from the whip, he is currently no longer a Conservative MP. David Warburton was also suspended (see here), and there is no debate about his present affiliation. Alextheconservative (talk) 15:29, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
It's not misleading to describe him as independent, it is common practice for anyone that has had the whip suspended whether it is Jeremy Corbyn or Anne Marie Morris. The sorry saga of whip withdrawals and reinstatement across the parliament is here AlecStewart (talk) 16:31, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Please change

Parish was elected to the European Parliament in the 1999 European Parliament election for the South West England region.

to

Parish was elected to the European Parliament for the South West England region in the 1999 election.

"European Parliament" doesn't need to appear twice, and it's probably better to put the constituency next to the Parliament name, so it doesn't sound like it's a by-election for that region alone. 49.198.51.54 (talk) 00:25, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Seems reasonable, so done. Thanks for well formed edit request! Nil Einne (talk) 04:39, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Lock this page

Now that he's been accused of something that many people find very funny this page will be vandalised to no end. 2A00:23C5:F506:9600:85DF:2803:11E0:AC91 (talk) 14:33, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Agreed - not a lot of point trying to fight the vandals while it isn't locked. LordSputnik (talk) 14:41, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

@Mjroots: Think you may have to up the protection, vandalism is still getting through. Polyamorph (talk) 14:58, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Let's leave it at semi for now. I'll add in an editnotice. Mjroots (talk) 15:05, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

@Polyamorph: actually, it was the duration of the protection that was increased, having been inadvertantly reduced. Protection level remains at semi. Mjroots (talk) 15:29, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Ah, OK! Thanks Polyamorph (talk) 16:15, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

GB News interview with Parish

GB News is reporting that Parish spoke to them on Wednesday. He is quoted as saying "I don't think there's necessarily a huge culture here, but I think it does have to be dealt with and dealt with seriously." Is this worth adding to the article? Mjroots (talk) 15:42, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

My immediate instinct was no, but multiple reliable sources are discussing this TV appearance so a mention would have due weight. Huff PostBusiness Insider, SCMP, Metro, Scotsman, The National, The Times, The Independent, Big Issue, The Herald, RTE. Fences&Windows 19:12, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
I agree that this has enough reliable coverage to be included, and it's still being talked about today about how awkward this interview was and how it reflects on him. I think it would have been difficult to argue the notability to it in the article when it was just alleged, but that's changed now he has admitted it. I meant what I said above. I have a banhammer and I am prepared to use it. Mjroots (talk) 16:45, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Neil Parish is STILL an MP

He might have announced his resignation today, but until the Treasury appoint him to an office of profit under the crown (either the Bailiff of the Chiltern Hundreds, or the Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead) he is still a member of parliament.

This appointment has not yet happened, and the Parliament website still lists him as a member of parliament. Ergo, he is still a member of parliament.

Please edit the article to reflect this. Thecarterclan1 (talk) 14:00, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

I agree. He is still an MP until the Treasury announce his appointment. 1234567jack (talk) 15:07, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Definitely still an MP Rustygecko (talk) 21:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Neil Parish resigned in the afternoon of Saturday 20 April 2022 because of the porn scandal. SashaVersailles (talk) 13:49, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Oh, and by the way, did you know that the 20th April 2022 is NOT a Saturday? It's actually a Wednesday. MadGuy7023 (talk) 13:52, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
There was no need to capitalize the not there, that was unnecessarily hostile. 92.0.35.8 (talk) 18:56, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
@MadGuy7023: It was obviously a typo, treat editors who make reasonable requests in good faith with respect, if you don't mind. Mjroots (talk) 06:14, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

"Whip suspended" as jargon

'Whip suspended' is a commonly understood phrase - does it need explanation? There's 28 other articles that use the phrase without explanation. AlecStewart (talk) 16:41, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

I have to disagree, as a non-British reader I'm not at all sure what had the Conservative whip suspended/Parish had the Conservative whip withdrawn means. I think it means that the post/task of "whip" was taken from Parish because he was (accused of) watching porn, but the wording is hard to understand (not "whip" per se, I get that). It sounds like Parish had the porn-watcher suspended.
And I have closely followed the careers of Jim Hacker, Francis Urquhart and Alan Beresford B'Stard, so I know British politics. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:17, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
As an Australian, I find the phrasing completely opaque. I also thought that he had had the ‘Whip’ (which is a person in our parliament) suspended, not that he had been suspended. --Jonathan O'Donnell (talk) 09:29, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
@Gareth Griffith-Jones, can you write this in an acceptable way we understand? Lead and Pornography investigation section. Gråbergs Gråa Sång 10:15, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
@ Grabs. Over the past eleven years of my editing Wikipedia, I have avoided subscribing to any topical subject. Sorry dear friend, but I cannot get involved here. Wishing you a good week,

Whip suspended is a common well understood ubiquitous expression in UK politics. Rustygecko (talk) 21:43, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

That may be so. Based on me not easily understanding it, I think it's not easily understood by a significant part of the en-WP readers. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:44, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
A whip and suspenders is never a good look, especially for an incumbent Tory MP. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:19, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
I think I've actually seen at least part of that film. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:25, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
"In April 2022 BBC Parliament began broadcasting in HD TV, initially only on the Virgin Media platform." But I'm not sure Parish was Caught on Camera. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:46, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
