Environmental damage
[edit]This article could use some info about the downside of the Newlands projects, specifically the damage all that diversion of water did to the desert lake ecosystems. Diversion of water completely dessicated Winnemucca Lake, nearly exterminated the cui-ui of Pyramid Lake, and has just about destroyed Walker Lake. When I was in school at UNR all of this seemed to get lumped under the label of the Newlands Reclamation Act, but I'm not sure how much of it was specifically a result of the Act, and which was due to already ongoing reclamation projects. I also remember hearing criticism that the irrigated desert soil was not very good for agriculture. Anyways, if someone with more wikienergy than me wants to dig up some citations, this would make an informative addition to the article. --203.211.77.66 (talk) 07:55, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

POV issues
[edit]I removed the following section contain evident bias and no sources, but as I'm unfamiliar with the topic, I'm left wondering if other content isn't also biased.
- It is considered by some to be one of the largest welfare programs in American history and led to tremendous graft and speculation, not to mention the building of what appeared to be gratuitous dams.
