According to official records and other reports, the flag bearer at the opening ceremony was Jen Armbruster [1][2]. I have a feeling Nick Scandone was merely bearing the flag at the 'welcoming ceremony' for the US Sailing Team, that occurred at the sailing venue Qingdao a little later.
