OFC Pirin BlagoevgradPirin Blagoevgrad – The football club changed its name last year, when a new association was created. WP:USEENGLISH suggests transliterating the new name, but there are a few clubs named 'Pirin' in Bulgaria. English news sources use the old names OFC Pirin Blagoevgrad and OFK Pirin, as well as simply Pirin Blagoevgrad, none of them (besides non-English local sources) use the new name, which if it were to be transliterated would be FK Pirin. I believe simply using the commonly recognisable and neutral name Pirin Blagoevgrad would be sufficient, as some English sources do so. Divpatok (talk) 21:27, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:14, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Divpatok: Better discuss it. The Pirin Mountains are a mountain range in southwestern Bulgaria. Page bg:ОФК Пирин (Благоевград) seems to say that the club calls itself merely Пирин, and that the rest of the longer name is an optional disambiguator. 11:14, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
  • The current full name of the association is Futbolen klub Pirin AD (Bulgarian: Футболен клуб „Пирин“ АД), meaning Pirin Football Club. If it were to be abbreviated it would be FK Pirin. However, there are a few clubs named Pirin in Bulgaria. The disambiguator Blagoevgrad indicates the city where the club is based. The old name of the club (and current article name) is Obshtinski futbolen klub Pirin (Bulgarian: Общиснки футболен клуб „Пирин“), meaning Pirin Minicipal Football Club, as the majority of the club was owned by Blagoevgrad Municipality. There is a typo when abbreviating, as it should be OFK rather than OFC if we were to transliterate the old association name. An example of two popular clubs with the same name are Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach where neither is named just Borrusia, and both indicate the cities they are based in.
