Spelling

[edit]

I think the name is officially spelled Jolasid. A quick Google search reveals this is the spelling seen both on the trains and on highway signs (though they disagree on Pa sak / Pasak). Anyway, correct RTGS would be Chonlasit, not Cholasit. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:35, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Using RTGS people with this name (not only the dam) write it increasingly 'Cholasit'. So that in Google one gets 61,400 results for it, while the 'J' and final 'd' are increasingly being dropped so now only '25,000' for 'Jolasid'. Revamped tourist websites use the spelling 'Pa Sak Cholasit'. Yes, the correct RTGS would be Chonlasit. Xufanc (talk) 10:18, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Curiously I'm getting only 16,900 ghits for cholasit. Also 7,250 for "pa sak cholasit" OR "pasak cholasit" -wikipedia vs 16,600 for "pa sak jolasid" OR "pasak jolasid" -wikipedia and 14,300 for "pa sak chonlasit" OR "pasak chonlasit" -wikipedia.
Anyway I think it's usually best to follow the official spellings when they are known. In this case, this page from the Royal Irrigation Department's website gives Pa Sak Jolasid Dam as the English spelling as bestowed by HM the King. Seems official enough to me. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:29, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While expanding the list of national parks and forest reserves, I used as a guideline the newer park and tourist websites, which mostly have switched to RTGS spelling. Since I saw a "J" I deemed it as obsolete, but if you think it has a more official look, the article could be renamed Pa Sak Jolasid Dam. (Xufanc (talk) 03:46, 2 March 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

I've moved the page. --Paul_012 (talk) 04:17, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
