Angaraag Mahanta → Papon – As per WP:Commonname. Subject is credited/referred to as "Papon" in most of the independent reliable sources (Times of India, Hindustan Times, India Today, Telegraph, NDTV, News18, Mid Day, Business Standard). On Google search, Papon would fetch around 4,290,000 results, whereas Angaraag Mahanta only gives you 262,000. So "Papon" is definitely more recognizable. - Managerarc™ talk 17:22, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Editing the article with an Agenda
[edit]I would like to bring to your notice that certain users aligned with Papon's fellow musician Zubin Garg have been spreading misinformation and twisting the facts using fake news to promote their agenda. The first song that Papon has sung in Bollywood was in 2004 and not in 2006 like they have claimed. I have made several attempts at making the changes with correct citations however these miscreants have repeatedly removed the facts and updated misinformation. This has been done yet again on his discography page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GGMUSourav (talk • contribs) 17:42, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- @GGMUSourav: Name-calling isn't going to help you here, and Wikipedia doesn't tolerate personal attacks. Let's try to be constructive here, please. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:28, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: @GGMUSourav added Hindustan Times article where it was stated that papon's Bollywood debut was "Sajana" which was released in 2005 but If you check out the song there is no credit to Papon and also his voice is also not in the song. The song has many musical experiments with some 'Alaap' of the composer himself. Jitazg (talk) 20:04, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- Well I don't know what you mean by "if you check out the song there is no credit to Papon". Where would one expect to find credit to Papon? Are you talking about in the album liner? Not being able to hear his voice doesn't mean that he didn't perform in the song, so that's a bit of a weak argument.
I do notice that the content appears to have been added to this article here, by Ansumang, where a release date of 2010 was initially included. The Hindustan Times article, which was being used as a source, was written in February 2012, and by that time, in this version of the Wikipedia article, we see that 2004 has replaced the 2010 claim. That change appears to have taken place in this edit, where an IP editor in November 2011 changed it. What I'm getting at, is that it is possible that Hindustani Times copied the content from Wikipedia. (See WP:CIRCULAR). However, it's also possible that they know something we do not. The film Let's Enjoy appears to have been released in 2004, so that piece of information is verifiable. The question then remains as to whether or not Papon performed on that track.Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:47, 1 December 2020 (UTC)- And of course after I posted the above, I found this interview with Papon, where he's asked what his first Hindi song is, and he says "'Sajna Baware' from the movie Let’s Enjoy." Soooo? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:49, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- He had produced the song and written it but I am talking about his singing debut his voice was not there and also he have no credits in vocals of the song. So technically it's "Om-Mantra" his debut as a playback in Bollywood. I have added a interview in the previous edits where he was asked about Bollywood debut he say in 2011 song "jiye kyon" which actually was his first hit song and when the interviewer asked about "Om- mantra" he chnages his answer and says he has work before (not mentioned any song name) and in "om-mantra" sung only 2-3 line only. Same goes with in his assamese industry where he claims in 2004 his own album was his debut but when the interviewer asked about the 1998 song "nasaba sokule" he says i have sung only few lines that's why he doesn't considers to be debut.
- That was the reason i added the line "he never accepts these songs to be his debut" in the previous edits. Jitazg (talk) 10:10, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- Please indent your replies properly, as I have done for you. The subject indicates in the Reuters interview that he sang in the song. Whether you think you hear his voice or not seems irrelevant to me, as that would epitomise original research. As to your other points, in the Reuters interview he does acknowledge "Jiyein Kyon", but calls it "my first big Bollywood song". That doesn't mean it was the first he made, that just means it is the first he considers significant to him. But significance isn't the same as "first". "First" is a matter of chronology, not of opinion or sentimentality. If he acknowledges that the first Hindi song he recorded was "Sajna Baware", then that seems pretty clear to me. As for "he have no credits in vocals of the song", I don't know what you're referring to--is there some website that lists all of the verified singing credits in all Indian arts and entertainment? I strongly doubt that, and that would be an argument from the negative, i.e. you didn't see a credit, so that makes it impossible he did the work. India is notoriously bad about crediting people for their work, so it is illogical to assert that a lack of credits means he didn't sing on the song. For all we know, he might have recorded the demo, which then got handed off to someone else to re-record. That doesn't mean it wasn't his first Hindi recording. @Cyphoidbomb Its really surprising that even after having things clarified regarding his first bollywood songs, users are removing factual information that are added with proper citations and adding misinformation. Can you please look into the same. Even his first Assamese song was updated with citation but yet again that has been removed and incorrect information has been added. Kindly look into this please — Preceding unsigned comment added by GGMUSourav (talk • contribs) 17:36, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
