A fact from Queensland Shearers Union appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 21 September 2011 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that members of the Queensland Shearers Union and British Seamen's Union blockaded wool bales produced by non-union shearers in Brisbane in 1890?
Okay, I am massively confused. I'm looking at Work and Strife in Paradise which gives founding dates/locations of both March 1875 in Toowomba (p. 8) and January 1887 in Blackall (p. 10). The page at the Australian Trade Union Archives also gives January 1887. Other sources give 1886. I can imagine why early-1887 might appear in some sources as 1886, but where does this 1875 come from? Should we assume it's a fluke or a separate organization (Work and Strife gives its name on p. 8 with an apostrophe after Shearers and on p. 10 without, perhaps they're different?) and use the January 1887 date and Blackall location? I think a shearers union formed at Toowoomba in 1875 but it was disbanded and achieved little if anything. I have a added a cited formation date and place as Blackall in 1887. - Shiftchange (talk) 03:45, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
