Racism in the Arab worldArab racism – the current title is a prime example of WP:WEASEL, the article is clearly about racism by Arabs. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:49, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. I don't see how this is a case of WP:WEASEL. The current title is clear, reasonably neutral, and in line with titles of similar articles. Some of the types of racism discussed are not necessarily exclusive to ethnic Arabs, so there's no need to imply that kind of scope restriction. The proposed title is more vague and is likely elicit more, not less, POV contention. R Prazeres (talk) 19:09, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I mean, the broader problem is that pages such as this are racist. Using the "Arab World" as a catch-all, ethnically defined geography to make mindless generalizations about social trends across what is a vast and socially diverse region is itself highly racist: it's a racistly framed page about racism. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:53, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Per R Prazeres's point. Skitash (talk) 20:03, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose the proposed name change, would possibly support another name change. I agree mostly with what Iskandar323 said, but also feel it is important to add that changing the name to "Arab Racism" would make the issues presented by them even worse. By calling the article "Arab racism" it would even further just associate these issues with Arab people generally and not demonstrate that these are large scale, societal issues. I definitely think there is a way to write an article about how race is viewed within different cultures/communities without it giving off the wrong impression, but framing it as "racism by [group of people]" certainly is giving off that wrong impression. I do think the phrase "Arab world" in this title is not the best one to use either, but I also think changing it to just Arab racism is a further step in the wrong direction. Also important to note that there is a way this article can be rewritten to acknowledge that these issues vary widely across different Arab communities, and at the very least, the current title could possibly allow for that distinction (yes it's still presented as one big topic of "racism in the Arab world", but, the article could demonstrate that racism in the so called "Arab world" isn't the same all across". Presenting it as "Arab Racism" really simplifies it down to one group of people perpetuating one type of racism. Also just leads to confusion since the title Arab racism could be misunderstood as racism against Arab people. So overall, I could possibly support another proposed name change, but definitely cannot support this one. Sillypilled (talk) 21:50, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
