Glossolepsis incisus common name

[edit]

Editor 70.182.190.203 has changed the common name for the entry on this page for this species to "salmon red rainbowfish", claiming that fishbase is wrong naming the species "red rainbbowfish". However I note that Dr Gerald R. Allen & Norbet J. Cross in Rainbowfishes of Australia and Papua New Guinea, 1982, Angus & Robertson Publishers, Sydney, ISBN 0 207 14604 7 use the name "red rainbowfish". Given that Dr Allen is probably the greatest living expert on rainbowfish and that he agrees with Fishbase (actually it is the other way around since this book predates Fishbase by a significant amount), and also that there is no such thing as an "official" common name for fish assigned by the original scientist toi describe the species or not, that the name "salmon-red" rainbowfish appears to be mainly confined to the aquarist community, and additionally that the species article is titled "red rainbowfish" (it does mention the alternative name in the first paragraph), so given all that, I think it appropriate that the name "red rainbowfish" be used on this page. I have changed the list entry back to its previous state. Nick Thorne talk 12:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
