First Egyptian ruler for over 2000 years
This is not true. Kings Fuad and Farouk were both Egyptian. 41.234.29.104 (talk) 03:08, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- True, but not really as they descend from Muhammad Ali Pasha, who is Albanian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElŞahin (talk • contribs) 06:31, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Fixed a Link
Was able to fix a link. The page Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan, a non existent page, was fixed up to Kingdom of Egypt, sorry if that was going to be a new page and all. PhillipStone1000 (talk) 3:47, 18 August 2012 (CST)
Map: To add Sudan is wrong
The British-Egyptian condominion over Sudan ended in 1953, the republic of was proclaimed thereafter. Although Egypt continued its claims, Sudan was not a part or a condominion of the Egyptian republic. --Roksanna (talk) 12:32, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. There is a consensus that this subject is not the primary topic for the term "Republic of Egypt". However, there is an ongoing RFD discussion about turning Republic of Egypt into a dab page which users may wish to weigh in on – this close should not prejudice that discussion. Republic of Egypt (1953–58) → Republic of Egypt – Proposed destination already redirects to current location. There is no reason for the years to be a part of the article title as there is no other state named "Republic of Egypt" other than the one featured in this article. – Nick Mitchell 98 (talk) 01:09, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Moved from RMTR
- Oppose RMTR speedy move for 10 years, that redirect pointed to Egypt, it has only pointed to this article for a few months. Clearly the longstanding version is Egypt and not this entity. This needs discussion -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 04:43, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Nick Mitchell 98 and 70.51.44.60: This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:11, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Survey
- Oppose who is going to know this. Leave as is. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:17, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose the country of Egypt as it is now is a republic, so "Republic of Egypt" should point to Egypt, and this article should remain where it is. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:37, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support: The manual of style for sovereign state article names uses the official name for the country without dates whenever possible. "Republic of Egypt" should hence be used as the article name. Also, just because a country has a republican system of government does not mean that every page named "Republic of ____" or "____ Republic" should redirect to the main page of the modern state; the contemporary Egyptian state is known as the "Arab Republic of Egypt" while the historical state was the "Republic of Egypt". 70.51.44.60's logic makes no sense. Additionally, pages and redirects are always being moved around, so the reason "for 10 years, that redirect pointed to Egypt" is also not logical. - This was voted by the nominator. George Ho (talk) 19:19, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose - Totally ambiguous obviously. Right now, there is "Arab Republic of Egypt", an official state name of Egypt. Also, it was a predecessor to United Arab Republic, also a predecessor to "Arab Republic of Egypt". --George Ho (talk) 02:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support Most people are just going to put "Egypt", those who put "Republic of Egypt" probably mean this article. If not there will be a hat note. Also links to RoE from should not need piping to go to the correct article. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 20:00, 21 November 2015 (UTC).
- Oppose. Obviously ambiguous with the current state. Suffixing with date range is a natural way to name past states. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:58, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
