Robert van Kerckhoven → Robert Van Kerkhoven – misspelled name. The man is named "Robert Van Kerkhoven", as is seen here on a picture from the 50s [1] (scroll down a screen), here on the official website of the Belgian FA [2], the nl.wikipedia.org and fr.wikipedia.org Some football DB website on the internet get it right, e.g. [3], unfortunately some copy around a misspelled name, which was used for this article. Oppose- it doesn't matter what other Wikipedias call him, this is the English-language Wikipedia, and English-language sources, such as FIFA (the world's governing body of football!) and NFT, confirm the WP:COMMONNAME spelling as 'Kerckhoven'. GiantSnowman 16:08, 28 May 2011 (UTC)- Which doesn't make sense, as peoples name on their ID doesn't change. FIFA misspelled many wrong names. Even then, you want English language sources ? Here you go [4], [5], [6], [7], http://fifahistory.skyrock.com/5.html, etc... --LimoWreck (talk) 16:15, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - finally, some English-language sources! Even if a few of them are of questionable reliability... Much obliged, GiantSnowman 16:21, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't knew person names are spelled different depending on the language. ;-) --Dreynner (talk) 18:12, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - Definitely without "c" and with capital. Sonuwe (talk) 16:50, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

- If you supprt, why have you moved the article to 'Bob' rather then the proposed 'Robert' - it doesn't make any sense! GiantSnowman 18:26, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Bob or Robert is exactly the same. Maybe Bob is better per WP:COMMONNAME, see Bill Clinton. Not William Clinton.--Dreynner (talk) 18:30, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- That is because Bill Clinton is called Bill in reliable sources, but all the sources here point to 'Robert'. Robert/Bob is not the same - look at Andrew Cole's example, for instance. GiantSnowman 18:34, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I don't care if it's Bob or Robert. As long as the surname is spelled correct, so Van Kerkhoven and not 'van Kerckhoven'.--Dreynner (talk) 19:05, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Agree with Dreynner: as long as the family name is correct. Bob/Robert doesn't really matter: Robert is his official name, but just as in English, some Roberts are popularly named Bob (and yes, I remember this Not the Nine O'Clock News sketch ;-) ). So it doesn't matter much if it's Bob or Robert in this case, this site even uses both on the same page. Just whichever you choose. ;-) --LimoWreck (talk) 20:48, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Nope, has to be 'Robert' for me, that's what 99% of the sources call him. GiantSnowman 21:31, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Discussion moved from Wikipedia:Requested moves#Current requests
[edit]- Bob Van Kerkhoven → Robert van Kerckhoven (move) – Requesting a move back to the original name of 'Robert van Kerckhoven', as there is an ongoing RM, and a number of different editors keep moving the page to various spellings. GiantSnowman 18:03, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Please leave it. Bob Van Kerkhove is the correct name. The RM is clear, all users clarify that Bob Van Kerkhove is the correct name. GiantSnowman is the only one that opposes.--Dreynner (talk) 18:09, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- If you took the time to actually read the talk page, you'll see I've supported a page move. However, everybody who has commented so far has agreed on 'Robert', not 'Bob'. GiantSnowman 18:11, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Bob is short for Robert. Robert is probably his official name but everyone was calling him Bob. As many Belgians with the name Robert/Bob. Compare Bill with William.--Dreynner (talk) 18:21, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm fully aware that 'Bob' is short for 'Robert', please don't patronise me. The issue here is that all of the sources refer to him as 'Robert', there's no evidence he was known as 'Bob'... GiantSnowman 18:28, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Continued discussion
[edit]- Every reliable source calls him Robert. Moving a page while it is at RM is poor form. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 20:42, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Please no more moves during this discussion
[edit]- I have moved the page back to Robert van Kerckhoven, as that was its name when this move discussion started. Please leave it there until this discussion reaches a concensus. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:49, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
