Name
[edit]He spells his name "Ruairi", not "Ruairí".
Nickname?
[edit]Is it true that his nickname as young leftist was "Ho Chi Quinn"? --Jfruh 03:09, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
- The media still use this nickname for him in less serious contexts. I think it refers to his beard and ironically to the fact that his politics and background are not exactly revolutionary. --Ryano 13:52, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
Movement
[edit]Why has this been moved from Ruairi Quinn to Ruairí Quinn? It is apparent from his own official site that he doesn't spell it with the í. Unless there is a good reason for this I'll move it back in a few days. Ben W Bell talk 11:07, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- There isn't a good reason, I'm going to move it back. Ruairí is the more common spelling, but it's clear that Quinn doesn't use the fada. --Ryano 11:29, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Religion
[edit]Is Ruairí still an existentialist atheist, or what? --213.202.158.8 (talk) 18:10, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Quinn-Diff
[edit]I'm not sure the following is worth mentioning in the main page, so I'll just note it here.
One of the tools (that is usually used in build servers) in the Debian Linux distribution, is called 'Quinn-Diff'. Its source contains the file README.silly-names , whose content is:
`What on earth does "Quinn Diff" stand for?' is rapidly become a FAQ, so here's the frequently given answer:
Ruari Quinn is (or at least was) an Irish politician of some sort; I know little or nothing about him other than his name. I was looking for a name for the at that time unnamed quinn diff and heard his name in a news report on the Radio. Having nothing better to use at the time, and being vaguely amused by the name I decided to use his name as a name for a couple of my programs.
If anyone has a better name, I'll be happy to use it.

I suppose that this refers to Ruairi Quinn and the first name is a typo. Relevant? maybe. "Quinn-Diff" is not much known by normal Debian/Ubuntu users and certainly does not deserve an article of its own. It isn't even mentioned in Debian build toolchain.
Alternatively, suggestions for an alternative meaning of Quinn here would be welmed as well, I guess :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tzafrir (talk • contribs) 14:01, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Fall of government in 1994. The article says: "Quinn, along with many of his Labour cabinet colleagues, strove unsuccessfully to keep the Fianna Fáil–Labour government together during the Father Brendan Smyth crisis in November 1994. He records in his autobiography that he still cannot understand why that Government fell."
This is completely disingenuous. The government fell because the Labour Party walked out of it, as Quinn very well knows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.255.194.210 (talk) 11:51, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Citations Needed tag
[edit]I have added a citations needed tag at the top as it is quite clear there is a huge lack of references throughout the article at present. Inexorable Existence (talk) 20:22, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
- Then bloody well get your finger out, and fix the article yourself! Don't expect others to do your bidding. Spleodrach (talk) 08:25, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
- You have made over 120,000 edits on Wikipedia and you still don't know that there is no requirement for editors to have worked on an article before they can add a tag. This article has only 15 sources provided even though it is quite sizeable and definitely requires a citations needed tag so I would love it if you could stop removing it. And also it isn't up to just one person to provide all the sources, this is a community-driven website where everyone chips in. I would suggest that you have a read of some Wikpedia policies first before jumping to conclusions. Inexorable Existence (talk) 22:00, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
- You have only ~500 edits, so get that number up by editing this article. You can do it! I believe in you! Don't tell others what to do, just do it yourself! Spleodrach (talk) 11:21, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
