Removed image that is not identified to cultivar[edit]

I've removed the image to the right, and its caption, because it looks like an ordinary commercial raspberry. Those are more likely to be hybrids than to be pure R. strigosus. The raspberry page has more explanation. Recently a number of more complex hybrids have become popular commercially, particularly some with yellow or purple fruit, but as far as I know the wild species still imparts a tendency for the fruit to fall apart, which makes commercialization difficult. The picture shows two fruit with the high thimble shape of commercial raspberries. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 23:38, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Sminthopsis84: Thanks for the correction. I took/added the photo, and can confirm they are commercial raspberries. When I couldn't find what type the company uses, I started going through various species and this seemed to be the closest match. Thanks for responding. I think it is usual for commercial sellers to have different cultivars at different times during the season, sometimes distinguishable only by characteristics that aren't visible in fruit (such as ripening time). Sminthopsis84 (talk) 19:35, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be considered good practice to add a link to the top of this page directing people to the page regarding the 1970s comedy film American Raspberry? That's what I was looking for and was redirected here.

Alternate Taxonomy[edit]

The footnote reference [3] at the end of the second sentence suggests that GRIN agrees with the species name on this page. It does not, as clicking on the link will show. Most authorities, including GRIN, Flora of North America, NCBI, UniProt, Plants of the World Online (POWO), and World Flora Online, classify this as Rubus idaeus ssp. strigosus. (No changes made.)
