COI tag (January 2022)

[edit]

It is apparent that the article's creator has a relationship with the article's subject, they have denied that they are being paid to create this article, but the relationship between the editor and the article's subject still needs to be explained. Hi Onel5969, I have no relationship with the subject of this article and I was inspired to write about her after reading an article about her in a local magazine (Hi Magazine) and watching a news report about her by a local news outlet(News1st) in the following month. The only connection here between her and me is that both of us are from Colombo, Sri Lanka. Other than that I haven’t even met in real life. Currently, I’m drafting an article to write about “Amesh Wijesekera” who is another fashion designer from Sri Lanka who gained world recognition and even named one of the top designers in the world by HYPEBEAST. My only intention is to bring due recognition to Sri Lankan fashion designers while adhering to Wikipedia’s guidelines. I hope I managed to draw a clear picture of myself and disclose my intentions. Sorry, but there are concrete signs that you have a connection to her. Onel5969 TT me 21:02, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not very sure about these concrete signs other than the fact that both of us are from Sri Lanka. As I mentioned earlier if there are changes that are required to be made to the article or if you believe that my writing tone is biased I’m happy to accommodate them. Welcome to the club. I have written an article on a prominent Retired Indian Army officer, and have faced similar baseless accusations with COI tags. Jonathanvarunbenjamin (talk) 09:01, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly it just discourages you of contributing here... Apparently, there is concrete signs of my connection to her as per @Onel5969 yet they are not willing share them here to close the case. Liyamu21 (talk) 07:32, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Onel5969, could you please explain the concrete signs of the connection I have with her? have I violated any of Wikipedia's content policies, or have I not written this article with a neutral point of view? I consulted many veteran users as well as talk pages when I was writing this, therefore, I am very eager to learn how to improve it. Liyamu21 (talk) 08:59, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I’m taking initiative and removing this COI tag as I fail to see this obvious COI/UPE connection I have with the subject of this article because it’s nonexistent. I am following the instructions and guidelines provided in the Maintenance template removal and from my best judgment Onel5969 is not willing to contribute to the discussion on the Talk page however quick to blatantly accuse me of COI/UPE connection which does not exist. When I attempt to initiate a discussion on the matter Onel5969 doesn’t seem to be interested in engaging in it nor provides the obvious evidence that they hold and that others fail to see. I have followed the instructions for removing the COI tag. Liyamu21 (talk) 15:30, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You don't make that call. You have an obvious connection. You've been pointed to the policies you need to follow. You refuse to do so. I do not have to provide clues to UPE/COI editors so that they can avoid detection. Anyone who reviews articles will see the obvious connection. You have not followed the instructions, since you have an obvious connection. Next step is ANI. Onel5969 TT me 15:49, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for joining l back to the discussion... Once again I reiterate that I don’t have an “obvious” or a secret connection with the subject of this article. I find your logic and reasoning to be ambiguous and unfair because you don’t validate the claim you’re making by providing any evidence. Though Wikipedia operates under the core principle of assuming good faith, from the tone and voice of your messages from very beginning I recognise that you certainly hold a certain bias towards me. As I said earlier, my intention was only to bring light to the Subject that won an international award, I have tried my level best to adhere to all the guidelines and policies set by Wikipedia. Moreover, to improve this article I even asked veteran editors to review the article and I also referred to the Teahouse when my article got rejected the first time. As you have suggested I also propose that we request for third party’s opinion to find a resolution for this dispute. Good day to you! Liyamu21 (talk) 07:25, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I hold no bias towards you. WP does hold a bias against UPE/COI editors. I have no issue with asking an admin to take a look at this article. I'll ping DGG, an admin with quite a bit of experience in this area. DGG - would you please take a look at this and see if my assessment of COI is warranted? Thank you.
