Added information[edit]

I have added a lot of information to the page. The reference is mostly the SPJIMR.org site. Please add more information as needed.

PGDSM - MIT[edit]

Please discuss about this program here before adding more information to it. Current 2008-2010 batch has been cancelled. More information can be added once the program restarts.

The institute has no intentions of restarting the programme. Source: informal, internal. I'm an alumn. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.192.239.183 (talk) 06:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lock, Stock, & Trade too close to original[edit]

I removed this section as a copyright violation, but the same anonymous account put it back. My first problem with this is the deception about where the content comes from. The reference given is from the Hindu Business Line, but the language is actually taken from the alumni newsletter. I assume that this is an attempt to disguise the fact that the content is still basically copied and pasted from the newsletter by providing another source on the same topic. Some attempt to paraphrase has been made this time, but it's clearly still way too close to be acceptable. You have to really hunt to find the differences between the two versions.

Let's compare the two versions:

Here: In LST, student teams representing the entrepreneurs and the investment bankers, present selected real-life private company profiles to the audience.
Original: At this one day event the SPJIMR student teams representing the entrepreneur and investment banker present carefully selected real life private company profiles to the audience.
All but the beginning of the sentence is from the original. Cleaning up the grammar doesn't count as paraphrasing.

Here: The shares are allotted through bidding, and the market forces determine the stock prices.
Original: The stocks are allotted through bidding and the ultimate stock prices are determined by the market forces.
Changing "stocks" to "shares" and removing the passive voice isn't enough.

Here: the investors with the highest-value portfolios and the company with the highest market capitalization win the contest in the end.
Original: At the end of the day the winning ‘investors’ are those with highest value portfolios and the winning company that which has the highest market capitalization.
The word order has been switched, but there's no question where this came from. Multiple phrases are still identical to the original.

I see several continuing issues with this section:

  • First, the actual source of the sentences should be cited, rather than pretending this came from somewhere else. Both sources could be used, but leaving out the alumni newsletter is clearly not acceptable.
  • Second, this is still too close to the original, with multiple identical phrases.
  • Third, I think it's too long and it gives undue weight to this topic. One way to make this less close to the original would be to cut some of the content I pointed out above. If this section could be cut to about half the current length, that would probably take care of my previous concern too. WeisheitSuchen (talk) 12:09, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit on 22 May 2015[edit]

The rating of this institute has badly been effected due to the resignation of most of its premier faculty. My ward is not getting the education as was marketed. I feel cheated. Proposed merge with List of SPJIMR alumni[edit]

Quite short and parent article is not very long; no evidence of independent notability of this aspect (WP:GNG fail) and has no role other than as a sub-article. DMacks (talk) 21:57, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
