Trouble with the word 'most active'
[edit]Where is the source for calling gaim 'one of the most active' projects on sourceforge. Since Sean was hired by google, work on Gaim has crept to almost a complete standstil. Proof: gaim2.0 is in beta from oct. 17th. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.58.253.131 (talk • contribs) 18:58, November 22, 2006
In the lower right corner of the sourceforge front page, there is a list of "most active" projects. I'm not sure how sf calculates this metric. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xlynx (talk • contribs) 16:30, January 14, 2007
I'm in agreement with the original protestor; this is not one of the most active projects, regardless of how sourceforge uses the term (I think it's simply number of downloads). At any rate, Gaim was in beta for over 2 years, and features have been stagnant for just as long.
wikiworthy?
[edit]Is Sean high enough profile to merit a wikipedia article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xlynx (talk • contribs) 16:30, January 14, 2007
- Definitely GAIM is a major piece of open source software and Sean is a field expert (which is noted as a reason for wiki-worthiness. Reboot 19:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Isn't he the cofounder of Egan-Jones rating corporation that just had a problem with the SEC? Isn't that worthy of a link to Sean Egan??Mylittlezach (talk) 01:16, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
myspace
[edit]can anyone verify that the myspace that is linked to on this page is actually his? it certainly looks like a fake page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.33.141.208 (talk • contribs) 02:01, January 28, 2007
- grumble, I don't really know much about this Sean Egan character but if it was actually his it must be some kind of a joke. --Bruce 20:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]It seems like he may qualify under WP:AUTH:3, since Pidgin is a well-known piece of software. However, his role in the creation of Pidgin does not appear to have been important enough to warrant a mention on Pidgin's own Wikipedia page (at least as of 08/09/11). Furthermore, only a single cited article is primarily dedicated to discussing Egan, and it is in a specialty magazine (eWeek). The other media citations all mention him in passing or use him as a source. Forbes is the only major non-specialist publication on the list, and it quotes him only in passing. There is no record of him receiving any significant industry awards. If his role in the creation of Pidgin was indeed notable, this should be made clear in the text (with supporting sources), and should likely serve as the main focus of the article.
