Does practically every patent application from his company list him as co-inventor? That would put these numbers in context and say more about the character of a person than his alleged creativity. Shumpei Yamazaki is the president of Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co. as of 2004. He has over 3245 patents exceeding Thomas Edison's by approximately 1000. His research lead to the basic mechanism behind flash memory.
