The article says there were minted coins at 547 bc. The article "coinage of side" tells us something different: "The Coinage of Side refers to numismatic objects produced at Side, an ancient Greek colony in modern day Turkey. The earliest recorded coinage from Side, silver Staters, date to appoximately 490-400 BC." Even if it was 547 bc, why should Side have been dominated by Persians in 547 bc? Maybe this is the traditional date of the battle between Croesus and the Persians, but in Germany we learn this was 546, and nowadays there seems to be the tendency to put the date later. Nevertheless, I see no evidence of coinage that early date, thus one should erase it if my arguments seem to be plausible. -- Air Check One —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.219.213.29 (talk) 00:48, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to this site http://www.turkishodyssey.com/places/medit/medit3.htm "'Side' meant 'pomegranate' in the local language. Until the Roman Imperial period, pomegranate was the symbol used on the coins of Side." Maybe this information needs to be added. Zeyn1 (talk) 04:16, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greek alternative name

[edit]

I approve in the discussion Talk:Lesbos#Turkish alternative name. Greek alternative name must be removed from the beginning. We can use it in the history section. Takabeg (talk) 08:35, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page title

[edit]

I recently renamed this page from Side to Side, Turkey to distinguish it from Side (disambiguation). I now realize that "Side, Turkey" might not be the best possible title for this page, since it is an ancient city and not a modern town. Does this page need to be renamed again?
