Miriam Wicks

[edit]

Has it ever been mentioned that Simon married Miriam? I definitely remember Pat referring to her as his "girlfriend" when she found out Miriam was pregnant in 2009 (which is what it says in the article), but the infobox says that they married in 2008... 144.124.121.55 (talk) 19:12, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, it hasn't. I don't know how she sneaked into the infobox as his wife. –anemoneprojectors21:34, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Has it been stated since that Simon married Miriam, as she's crept back into the infobox? - JuneGloom Talk 23:41, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
From memory, I believe Pat did mention "your brother's wife" when on the phone to David. However, I don't think she was named as Miriam so it's probably still OR. U-Mos (talk) 18:19, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

How come the same image is currently being used in the infobox and under departure? I don't think this article really needs more than one image, and that one should really be from his 1985-90 years, ie the period he was famous for. Frickative 23:00, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've nominated the 2012 image for deletion under non-free content criteria 8. Comments are welcome here. Frickative 13:08, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've said it a few times now that the article barely needs one image of 2012 return let alone two! I think we've had three or four 2012 images uploaded now. The previous image from the 1980s/90s should be in the infobox, since it represents his whole time on the show and not just thirty brief, but brilliant, seconds. - JuneGloom Talk 16:19, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It would be better to have a new image as the main picture than on which is low resolution and is an old standard definition picture. People would recognise him more with a photo from the last episode than one from several decades ago. The photo in the return section was added sometime later.Talk 16:24, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, it wouldn't. The image I have uploaded of his 2012 is in the brief return section. I think 5 years back in the 80's reflects the character better than it did in a 15 second appearance in 2012. GSorbyPing 16:26, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The 80s picture should surely be in the infobox, and I'd say the same for David Wicks and any other guest returns as well (Alan Jackson (EastEnders))?). I support the inclusion of a picture alongside the return section at the bottom, but nowhere else. I am also going to warn two users who are at the 3 revert rule. U-Mos (talk) 18:12, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure there is much need for another non-free image. If there is to be more than one - then I'd keep the new image placed in the appropriate development section - and keep the old image in the infobox as it correctly illustrates the subject. I do not really think the image of Simon in the first episode is needed at all.Rain the 1 19:06, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's a fair point, the is it completely necessary to illustrate a haircut? U-Mos (talk) 19:15, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The actual infobox photo is in definite need of an update. Could those updating this page please look into sourcing a hi-res or alternative photo, even if it is from the era that satisfies those users deciding that. There are plenty out there.Talk 22:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If there are plenty out, you should find it really easy to find one yourself. We do not need a hi-res image seeings as non-free images should really be low res so no one else can profit from it. I fail to see how any reader cannot get a good idea of how the character appeared.Rain the 1 22:44, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think the 2012 image is important for historical reference, but it should be in development section. It's a 22 year gap which is the longest that there has been for any return and the scene is talked about substantially in the press so an argument for keeping it could easily be made.GunGagdinMoan 11:42, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh is there a source for Simon having the longest gap between appearances? That seems like quite a good bit of info to have in the article. - JuneGloom Talk 17:24, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Im revisiting this as I think the 2012 image should come from here http://www.metro.co.uk/tv/887360-nick-berry-makes-shock-eastenders-return-for-pat-evans-funeral as it shows the scenery and context. It got considerable coverage in the press and could easily be expanded in the text to cover its inclusion for critical commentary.GunGagdinMoan 03:47, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree! There is a big chunk of Recpetion online at IS, but ive lost it, :( MayhemMario 22:10, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please watch the above. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.240.132 (talk) 22:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Does this source actually state that Brian Wicks is Simons father? If so, then fine he should be listed and there should be no 'presumably' about it. If it does not then it is just your theory (however likely) and so cannot be included. Wikipedia is not a fansite, we deal with verifiable facts. Bleaney (talk) 22:18, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've listed the three possible fathers in his infobox, since it's quite clear we don't know who it is (that's a verifiable fact). I didn't need to watch a YouTube clip to know that though. The video shows Pete being shocked when Simon arrives, then taking him to the Vic and calling him his son. I don't know why you asked us to watch it. We've always taken Pat's word when she said that Brian was his father, but Colin Brake's book says we can never be sure. –anemoneprojectors09:34, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Although Colin Brake says this (and that may also be what the production team felt too) the last we heard was Pat saying that Simon was Brian's son and Simon went to visit Brian in the aftermath too. It has never been disputed on screen since. So I think we should go with the onscreen events because the story was never revisited to suggest otherwise.GunGagdinMoan 17:18, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS Brian Wicks redirect has been deleted. so now we have red links in all our articles. Messy.GunGagdinMoan 17:20, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've done most of the ones remaining (I think). FWIW, I'm with Gungadin: in the show, it was left that Brian was Simon's father. A "real world" paragraph can cover what opinions different writers and production teams thought. Stephenb (Talk) 07:54, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy with that. –anemoneprojectors09:34, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
